No dustjacket. This is a relatively plain binding by Doubleday Doran & Company New York thus a reprint The London 1897 first edition was published by Macmillan Company with 22 illustrations published a month after the American first edition published by Century Company. "Captains Courageous" was original published in serial form by McClure's Magazine November 1896-May 1897 with 25 illustrations and in Pearson's Magazine 1896-April 1897 with 41 illustrations. This is a fascinating novel by Kipling 1865-1936 published during his years in the United States. He never adapted to the American style of living so he returned to England in 1889. Condition of book: Light wear to binding and to extremities of binding two light corner bumps; age toning to endpapers; old book dealer sticker on rear endpaper pastedown. Birthday inscription on first free endpaper. Previous owner stamped his name and date May 16 1939 twice on first endpapers and in the textblock. Some blue tint on top edge has been worn away.
