He was born in India the inspiration behind a vast amount of his writings which include 'The Jungle Book' 'Just So Stories' and 'Kim'. Henry James said: "Kipling strikes me personally as the most complete man of genius as distinct from fine intelligence that I have ever known." In 1907 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature making him the first English-language writer to receive the prize and to date he remains its youngest recipient. Among other honours he was sounded out for the British Poet Laureateship and on several occasions for a knighthood all of which he declined. The Bombay edition was initially published in 20 volumes and limited to 1000 copies. Kipling continued to write and it eventually grew to 31 volumes but the last 11 volumes were limited to 500 copies only. This collection is complete in twenty five volumes which was limited to 1050. With watermarks to the endpapers. In original publishers' half cloth bindings with paper covered boards. Eighteen of these volumes feature their original dustwrapper. Externally all volumes are generally sound with only some light rubbing and scattered marks. Slight foxing to the spine labels without dustwrappers. Both hinges to volume fourteen are strained with the rear being a little more tender. Dustwrappers are a little chipped with some slight loss to the head and tail of the spines. Dustwrappers are also quite foxed which is heavier to the spine of volume twenty-four and twenty-five. Very minor damp staining to the spine of volume three and four. Closed tear to the head of volume fifteen's spine as well as the tail of volume sixteen's. Volume twenty-four and twenty-five's dustwrappers have some evidence of past worming which is heavier to volume twenty-five. Internally all volumes are generally firmly bound and bright though with some slight straining to volume twenty-three. Some foxing to the endpapers and textblock edge. Many leaves are uncut.
