I "fanciulli selvaggi" incarnano la speranza di un impossibile ritorno alla natura, a una selvatichezza libera e incontrollata, e interpretano un mito che continua a parlare alle nostre coscienze. Il tema che questo saggio si propone di affrontare si concentra sul rapporto tra l'idea di feral child espressa da Kipling nel celeberrimo personaggio di Mowgli e quella che emerge nelle opere del narratore e poeta australiano David Malouf. Mowgli cela in sé un'idea di conciliazione, ma anche di violento contrasto tra la maturità inglese e l'infanzia indiana del suo autore, sintetizzate in una identità imperiale. Per contro la visione offerta da Malouf è quella di un puer in grado di destabilizzare, di mettere in discussione identità e ruoli imperiali acquisiti come inderogabili. Da un lato, quindi, si analizza un mito coloniale e, dall'altro, una sua sfuggente ed elusiva interpretazione postcoloniale. Matteo Baraldi collabora con il Centro Studi Omeoglotti dell'Università di Bologna occupandosi principalmente di letteratura e cultura australiana. Autori: Matteo Baraldi.

Tout commence en 1919 pour beaucoup la r�volution apport�e par les Editions MORNAY fut l'utilisation syst�matique de l'illustration pour les ouvrages �dit�s par cette maison. Il faut savoir que jusqu'alors l'illustration �tait r�serv�e aux editions dites "de Luxe" qualificatif qui indiquait � la fois un soin tout particulier apport� � l'�dition � la composition mais aussi un prix �lev� qui ne permettait pas � tous d'acquerir ces ouvrages et les r�serv�s ainsi aux classes les plus ais�es de la soci�t�. En ce d�but de XXeme si�cle un certain nombre de maison d'�dition se lanc�rent sur le cr�neau de ce que l'on appela le livre de "demi-luxe" eut �gard aux prix plus mod�r� pratiqu� pour ces ouvrages. Ouvrages qui pour autant permettaient de d�couvrir des auteurs de tout premier ordre et �taient imprim� avec une attention toute particuli�re sur des velins de qualit�. Pour autant les illustrations n'�taient qu'exception dans ce genre d'edition. Antoinette et Georges MORNAY ont pens�s une organisation qui allait bien au-del� de ce "cot� visible de l'iceberg" que fut le recours permanent aux illustrateurs. Leur concept de maison d'edition etait global et tr�s "marketing" dirions nous aujourd'hui : - Prix de vente tr�s bas augmentant n�anmoins au fil des ann�es avec le succ�s mais qui n'acceptait aucun compris tant sur la qualit� de l'impression papier gravure etc. que sur le choix des auteurs et des illustrateurs . - Cr�ation d'un Service de Presse qui par les livres offert aux journalistes donna aux Editions MORNAY une publicit� non n�gligeable. - Campagne de publicit� pouvant �tre de grande envergure Article de Maurice CONSTANTIN-MEYER sur Maria Chapdelaine dans l'Illustration de NOEL 1931 De tout cela il nous reste aujourd'hui un formidable ensemble de textes et d'auteurs comprenant 112 ouvrages edit�s de 1919 � 1935 qui retrace l'�volutions de ces editions du livre illustr� moderne : des bois grav� en noir jusqu'aux aquarelles au pochoir.
