The translation is by Louis Fabulet and Robert d'Humieres. The half title page contains inscriptions by both translators to Charles Fountaine Walker whose book plate is in the front of the book. In the front four blank pages of the book there is a lengthy four page inscription to Charles dated Nov. 23 1899 signed Louis. Charles Fountaine Walker translated with Fabulet two other Kipling books: Captains Courageous and Kim.<br> The binding is beautiful leather with an Art Nouveau styled gilt decoration. The binding was done by the Guild of Women Binders and is signed in small letters at the bottom of the inside of the front cover.<br> 78-2982<br> The two leaves holding the four page inscription are mostly loose - barely holding. Moderate tearing and chips to dust wrapper but reinforced with archival binding and otherwise intact. Inscription dated 1926 to first free endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Kipling's collection of three series of travel letters: "From Tideway to Tideway" "Letters to the Family" and "Egypt of the Magicians". From the library of Lt Col Alfred Garnet Cuthbert Keeson OBE MC served in the 9th London Regiment during the Great War winning an MC in September 1918. He became Commanding Officer of the Queen Victoria Rifles from 1934 to 1938. The Second World War saw him serving on the Staff as a Brigade Major for 71st Infantry and being made an OBE. He died in 1968. Book is very good and bright. The wrapper is very good and bright. Repair to spine centre with archival tape and light loss. Edges lightly rubbed and nicked.
