Collated complete. Volume I comprises the journals of Captain Robert Falcon Scott while Volume II contains the reports of the journeys and the scientific work undertaken by Edward Adrian Wilson and the surviving members of the expedition. Arranged by Leonard Huxley with a preface by Clements Markham.Scott was a Royal Navy officer and polar explorer who led two major Antarctic expeditions: the Discovery expedition 1901-04 and the Terra Nova expedition 1910-13 the latter documented here and culminating in Scott"s death after reaching the South Pole. He congratulates her on her 'success in the Saturday Westminster Essay Competition'. He is grateful to her for 'guessing that I should be interested in this work of yours after having plied my scalpel upon your novel "The Sword of Love".' He regrets that 'for many a long year' he has 'done no general reviewing outside the publisher's office. There the flood of MSS. that poured in furnished effectual occupation. The thickness of the trees in one's own spinney precluded much survey of the whole wood.'
