Greenwald, Jeff
Future Perfect : How Star Trek Conquered Planet Earth
London: Viking Press 1998. Book. Very Good. Hardback. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Vonnegut who is interviewed in this volume has said many times and in many ways that humans are always seeking extended families. Author Jeff Greenwald looks into one of the largest artificial families ever created the legion of Star Trek fans who know each other by secret signs symbols and addictions and who turn out to be one of the most interesting subjects for sociological study ever invented by a major movie studio. Greenwald travels the globe interviewing Klingon clans from Germany Trek-heads in an English pub and dozens of Americans who find fulfilment in the wearing of funny ears. Of extreme interest is the section on the Klingon Language Institute an actual organization of linguists and scholars who are translating the Bible into Klingon. There's already a splinter group who've decided to do their own Bible translation that will be truer to Klingon culture. There's also a delightfully eclectic assortment of celebrity interviews some of which are eye-popping. The final chapter I swear to Kahless is a talk with an unlikely Trek fan: the Dalai Lama. An engaging read for Trekkers sociologists and Buddhists alike. Dustjacket is slightly bumped to edges. Viking Press Hardcover

The new children are being methodically rounded up and sequestered in special schools where they are studied measured and biopsied. Stella Nova the daughter of Kaye Lang and Mitch Rafelson is one of them. She is driven by instinct to be with her own kind to establish a new kind of social order and discover her potential. Kaye and Mitch wish to protect her but to do so they must keep her isolated stifled in a blanket of security that they all know must eventually be lifted. The Briar King - Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone Series #1
Macmillan Australia 2003. Trade Paperback. Very Good. Trade Paperback. 552 pages. PUBLISHING DETAILS: Macmillan Australia 2003. CONDITION: This book is in very good condition. More specifically: Covers have light creasing. Spine has minimal reading creases. . Pages are reasonably tanned. ABOUT THIS BOOK: In the kingdom of Crotheny two young girls play in the tangled gardens of the sacred city of the dead. Fleeing an imaginary attacker the girls-one of whom is the reckless young daughter of the king-discover the unknown crypt of the legendary ancestral queen Virgenya Dare. In the wilds of the forest while investigating the slaughter of an innocent family king's holter Aspar White weaves his way through a maze of ancient willows-and comes face-to-face with a monstrous beast found only in folk tales and nightmares. Meanwhile traveling the same road a scholarly young priest begins an education in the nature of evil found festering just beneath the surface of the seemingly peaceful land. The royal family itself comes under siege facing betrayal that only sorcery could accomplish. Now-for three beautiful sisters for a young man made suddenly into a knight and for a woman in love with a roguish adventurer-a rising darkness appears shattering what was once certain familiar and good. These destinies and more will be linked when malevolent forces walk the land. For Crotheny the most powerful nation in the world is shaken at its core. And the Briar King harbinger of death has awakened from his slumber. Imbuing his tale with richness pathos action and passion Greg Keyes begins an amazing new epic that takes fantasy fiction to a new level. At the heart of the story Keyes has placed a remarkable young woman Anne Dare the youngest daughter of a royal family . . . and the one person upon whom the fate of this world may depend.
