Haggard H. Rider
THE PEOPLE OF THE MIST
New York: Ballantine Books 1973. Vintage Paperback Ballantine 23660: H. Rider Haggard a prolific writer of adventure fantasy from the late 19th into the early 20th century is credited with creating the "lost race" sub-genre with the publication of "King Solomon's Mines" in 1885 and "She" in 1886. "The People of the Mist" from 1894 is another example of Haggard's ability to meld high adventure "reality" with a tale of a lost culture in the heart of ancient savage Africa all of it a fantasy invented by the author. This edition from Ballantine's Adult Fantasy Series with cover art by Dean Ellis includes an introduction by Lin Carter. Pictorial wrappers show a small tear on the fold between front cover and lower end of spine reading creases and minor surface and edge wear o/w no significant flaws or damage. The text is clean and unmarked tight with a very slight spine lean. A very decent reading/study copy. . First Printing First Paperback Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Good Plus. HAGGARD H. Rider
THE WANDERER'S NECKLACE. With Four Illustrations by A.C. Michael.
London: Cassell 1914. Presumed Canadian issue. Octavo. Light brown cloth lettered and ruled to spine in gilt front cover gilt lettered with central gilt monogram against a dark green background border in blind. xii 328 pp. Colour frontispiece with tissue guard and three sepia toned plates inserted. Spine sunned with almost all the gilt flaked away; light soiling to rear covers; free endpapers quite browned from binding; cracked front inner hinge neatly repaired; some foxing in text and to page edges; a Good-VG sound copy otherwise. This binding varies from that described by Whatmore F41 and Allen 62 and I believe that this binding with the monogram against a green background was for the Canadian market. I have had other Cassell Haggards in this style of binding also not described in Whatmore or Allen and all bought here in Canada. The present copy has a Montreal bookseller's ticket at rear. In Bleiler. Reginald 06574. Wolff 2889. A tale of a Norseman who travels in time. First printing. Hardcover. Cassell
