Toronto: A Del Rey Book Published by Ballantine Books a division of Random House of Canada Limited 1985. Light Creasing on Front Rear Covers Spine; Front Rear Covers Spine Lightly Chipped; Spine Slightly Cocked; Edges Lightly Soiled; Slight Yellowing Due to Age. It was a tragic mismatch: the unsuspecting stalked by the unrelenting. But the victim was an entire civilization. SUB-TITLE: a novel. CONTENTS: The Sun Tycoons 1 Janoort 2 Starbird 3 Kwanlon 4 Metabrake 5 Solar Halo 6 Skyfish 7 Fermi Paradox 8 Sun Company 9 "Empires Die" 10 Skyweb 11 Cotopaxi High 12 Sunblood 13 Synfare 14 High House 15 Solarpolitics 16 Survival Paradox 17 Mexamerica 18 Azteca 19 Revelator 20 Armageddon 21 Black Companion 22 Lifeburst 23 The Eldermost. SYNOPSIS: THE ULTIMATE TEST Somewhere eons past the Seekers had begun as weapons--cyborg war machines. Nuclear explosions and powerful lasers meant little to them for each was larger than ten battleships and subsisted on a diet of heavy metals preferably radioactive. Nothing was known of the Seekers' creators for their expansion into space had failed. Their cyborgs ate them. Soon the Seekers had begun their own Lifeburst into space flying to nearby stars evolving hiving eating
but always destroying the native life. Such was their way. Eventually a Seeker queen sought refuge in the asteroid belt of the Solar System. She was huge mean hungry and very pregnant. And all that stood between her and the total destruction of Man were a handful of the Seekers' most recent victims and a young man with an unproven secret weapon. Jack Williamson began writing science fiction in 1928 before it got that name. With time out for service as an Army Air Force weather forecaster during World War II and a more recent career as a college English professor he has devoted his life to science fiction and he says he has no regrets. A Southwesterner he was born in Arizona of pioneering parents who took him to a Mexican mountain ranch before he was two months old moved from there to Pecos Texas and then the year he was seven brought him by covered wagon to the Staked Plains of eastern New Mexico where he and his wife Blanche still live. The best known of his thirty-odd novels is probably The Humanoids. He has been honored by the Science Fiction Writers of America with their Grand Master Nebula Award and he has served for two terms as president of the organization. He taught one of the first college courses in science fiction and has edited a guidebook for science fiction teachers. Now retired from teaching he writes on a word processor. Mazeway
New York: A Del Rey Book Published By Ballantine Books - Random House Inc. 1990. BOOK: Corners Spine Bumped; Light Shelf Rub to Boards. DUST JACKET: Previous Owner Markings Price Clipped; Lightly Scuffed; Lightly Chipped; In Archival Quality Jacket Cover. author of Lifeburst. JACKET DESIGN BY: Darrin Ehardt. DESIGN BY: Holly Johnson. SYNOPSIS: From the depths of space the Seeker had come to make the Solar system her nest and its planets food for her insatiable brood. With the help of aliens who had also once been the Seekers' victims the invader was defeated but not before Earth was ravaged its technology destroyed and its inhabitants reduced to barbarism. Mankind's only chance for salvation lay with the Eldren a conglomeration of alien races ancient and wise and dedicated to peace and learning. But the Eldren considered humanity too primitive too savage to understand the Eldren Way and so they withheld their help. Then young Benn Dain learned of Mazeway a planetary doublet whose twin worlds Blade and Stone were a testing ground for Eldren young. If Benn could survive Mazeway mankind might be allowed a reprieve. With him went two other humans Roxane Kwan and Diego Bolivar who had their own reasons for braving the test. They had no interest in saving mankind--what they sought was total control over the dying Earth. But the Game of Blade and Stone was not designed for humans and to survive they would have to fathom the ways of alien minds and learn that the subtle workings of Eldren peace held many hidden traps.
