This edition is sumptuously decorated by Willy Pogany the Hungarian illustrator. Boards are covered in orange silk cloth lettered in gilt with black and gold illustration. There is some dustiness to the silk. Edges and tips are very good. The spine is complete with lettering in gilt. The front endpaper bears a neat name in ink and dated 1930. There is a newspaper article pasted at the top also on front endpaper. There are 12 beautiful tipped-in color plates including frontispiece. There are also 46 mounted decorations in black and gold illustrations with other decorations in black and white. A very good item all round. Not exlib and packed and sent with care. hardcover

Nor is a date of publication given but there is a date written with the gift inscription of 1925. <br/> <br/> "Willy" Pogany 1882 - 1955 was a prolific Hungarian illustrator of children's and other books. Pogany's artistic style is heavily fairy-tale oriented and he used dreamy and warm pastel scenes with watercolors oil paintings and especially pen and ink.<br/> <br/> Edward Fitzgerald's translation remains the most famous memorable and widely used.<br/> <br/> A LOVELY VERY GIFTABLE Uncommon edition with evocative illustrations by Willy Pogany. Firm clean copy in a clean limp leather binding with bright gilt and virtually no flaking and little shelf wear. Small tear to the leather at the top of its spine. Paper lightly age-toned. The full-color illustrations by Pogany are unfoxed and most are bright though a couple are beginning to fade. Gift inscription penned on the front flyleaf and name at top of front pastedown. Very Good book in Good jacket. Clean covers with light rubbing and fading to cloth edges. Pages clean but endpapers browned and with small spot marks.
