The book traces French social structure from monarchy to commoners with chapters on justice guilds church hierarchy and entertainment. Artists like Debucourt Cochin and Olivier are featured through vibrant lithographic reproductions. Text block remains clean and secure with some foxing primarily at front and end leaves. Front joint of 'Moeurs Usages' cracked with spine leather lifting. Bookplate of one T & M. Morison to the front pastedowns of 'Les Arts' and 'Moeurs' and bookplate of the Artists' Society of Landham Chambers to 'Jesus Christ'. Internally firmly bound. <p>This 1871 third edition of Paul Lacroix's study of medieval and Renaissance European material culture presents a single large volume bound in gilt-stamped leather spine and red cloth boards with patterned endpapers and bright gilt edges. The publisher Firmin Didot Frères of Paris issued this edition in large octavo format across 548 pages. Topics include early movable type and printing musical instruments such as the syrinx and gigue military traditions of Charlemagne's era and textile and architectural styles including Byzantine and Romanesque forms. Hundreds of engravings depict iconography weaponry costumes and artifacts. Condition: Very Good. The binding remains secure with minor edgewear; page edges remain vibrant. Red cloth boards color and gilt are faded. Internally complete with clean pages and unmarred illustrations. Includes 19 chromolithograph plates as called for which have retained their vibrant color.
