First and only edition of this scarce travelogue which was planned for fifteen days on January 19, 1909, but took about forty days, containing a first-hand travel account of Egypt in 1909, an Islamic country that began to modernize at the beginning of the 20th century, written by an Ottoman intellectual, one year after the Second Constitutional Regime. This rare book contains early descriptions of the Egyptian municipality, the Red Crescent, gardens and parks, urbanism, zoo, and botanic gardens, tramps, bridges, social life, folkloric customs, Mahmil Alays, cemeteries, music and history of art, hotels, Nile and many historical heritages, architecture, etc. Agop [or Agob] Matyosyan was one of the first Armenian printers to apply during the inspections of printing houses that were done in accordance with the Nizam-name-i Cedid (Jareeda-i Mahakim, No. 429 (13 Jamazia al-awwal 1305) in the late Imperial Ottoman period. From the middle of the nineteenth century, Ottoman scholars played a crucial role in educating society and shaping Muslim identity at the tip of Southern Africa. Scholars such as Abu Bakr Effendi, Mahmud Fakih Emin Effendi and Ottoman Consul-Generals Ohannes Majakyan Effendi, Mehmet Remzi Bey strengthened the relationship between the Ottoman Empire and South Africa, as far as Mauritius Island. The Noor'ul Osmaniya Mosque, Ottoman Cricket Club, Noor'ul Hamidiyya Mosque in Cape Town and many Ottoman graves in South Africa are evidence of the Ottoman presence and traces in the region. Ottoman emissaries and Muslim theologians left a siginficant cultural legacy in Southern Africa. This cultural and Islamic legacy has yet to be woven into South African historiography. This study seeks to contribute the field in the light of archival sources from the Ottoman State Archives and National Archives of South Africa.

A rare Ottoman map printed in last period shows Ankara city with detailed place names. This is one the serie of the Bonn projection maps which are the first map series in modern techniques in Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. In order to produce these maps covering Turkish territory, Reconnaissance Branch was incorporated into The Mapping Commission. The maps were produced in the datum based on the latitude and longitude of Ayasofya Mosque in equal area Bonn Projection. The field works for the 123 sheets covering the country were conducted by 76 staff. The production was completed in 18 years starting from east west. Field works continued without stopping except in years 1914 and 1920. This map series called also reconnaissance maps contributed a lot to producing 1:25.000 scale maps.

Maykop is the capital city of the Republic of Adygea in Russia, located on the right bank of the Belaya River (a tributary of the Kuban River). Yekaterinodar (Krasnodar) at north of map, near to Maykop. From northwest to south east, map shows Black Sea shores of the extensive area with interesting details in Ottoman Turkish script. Also shown Belaya, Chokhrak and Dakh Rivers in addition all south land of Krasnodar Krai of the Northwestern Caucasus until southern Georgian borders and Georgia. Almost all toponyms are in Ottoman Turkish.
