Prima edizione. Minimi segni del tempo, altrimenti esemplare molto ben conservato. Alle pp. 297-301 è pubblicato per la prima volta nella sua interezza il poemetto «Emigranti», dedicato a Massimo Gorki. Le strofe IV, 1-9 VI e VII erano in realtà già apparse sulla «Sementa» del 1 maggio 1903, e il componimento venne poi accolto nella prima edizione dei «Nuovi Poemetti» del 1909, con il titolo «Gli emigranti della luna»; numerose le modifiche apportate: venne eliminata la dedica «A Massimo Gorki», alcuni termini furono resi in russi ('ramingo' divenne 'brodiag', 'tana' e 'landa' diventarono 'isba' e 'taiga') e il poema fu diviso in sei canti preceduti da un titolo. Lo spunto per la composizione del poema fu fornito a Pascoli «dalla lettura di un articolo - tratto da un giornale romano non identificato del 17 maggio 1899 - nel quale si riferiva di un gruppo di contadini del Caucaso che, prostrati dagli affitti dei terreni, si erano convinti di poter emigrare sulla luna alla ricerca di nuove terre coltivabili (l'articolo traeva spunto da una notizia apparsa sul giornale russo "Sin Otecestva" sotto il titolo "I viaggi nella luna dei contadini russi")», («Giovanni Pascoli nello specchio delle sue carte», scheda di Alida Caramagno - www.pascoli.archivi.beniculturali.it). http://www.pascoli.archivi.beniculturali.it/index.php?id=45&objId=14188

Bell’esemplare. Alle pp. 403-4 sono stampate le poesie di Pascoli «Epistola» e «La Morta». Sono due poesie giovanili, composte tra il 1876 e il 1789. La prima «è indirizzata a Ridiverde - soprannome che i compagni avevano dato a Severino Ferrari - ; L’altra [...] fu musicata per intero da Leoncavallo e veniva cantata dai compagni in casa dell’avv. Marcovigi, quando erano ancora tutti studenti. Leoncavallo si rammento ancora la musica e di una strofa la ricordava e cantava spesso anche il Pascoli, che però riteneva d’aver perdute le parole, dal Leoncavallo, soventi, ridomandate» (dalla nota ai testi, p. 402).

Edizione originale delle parti seconda e terza di «Intorno alla Minerva oscura». Alcune fioriture, ma esemplare ben conservato. Sono qui pubblicati alle pp. 202-224, per la prima volta, «Le tre fiere» e «Le tre rovine e i tre fiumi», il secondo e terzo dei paragrafi che andranno vanno a costituire il saggio dantesco «Intorno alla Minerva oscura»; il primo paragrafo era uscito l’anno precedente, sempre su «Flegrea»; Il saggio non sarà mai compreso in volume, fino alla stampa nell’edizione Vicinelli delle «Prose» dantesche di Pascoli (Mondadori, 1952). La materia fu poi riplasmata in «Sotto il velame», uscito nel 1900. Pascoli scrive nel preludio: «Torno dunque alla ‘Minerva oscura’, per esporre più chiaramente ciò che trovai, per aggiungere e correggere dove occorre, per difendere l’opera mia da critici». Il poeta aveva infatti presentato al concorso al Premio Reale per la Filologia e Linguistica del 1896 il suo saggio di esegesi della «Commedia» di Dante «Minerva oscura, Prolegomena: la costruzione morale del Poema Dantesco», che però venne accolto negativamente dalla commissione, composta da Carducci, Comparetti, Nigra, Schiapparelli e Ascoli. E pare che fu proprio Carducci a bocciare definitivamente il lavoro di Pascoli, cosa che addolorò profondamente il poeta. Prima edizione. Dorso restaurato, ma buon esemplare. È qui pubblicata per la prima volta la poesia «I due vicini» (pp. 361-7), corredata da quattro acqueforti di Vico Viganò e da alcune note dello stesso Pascoli a glossare i termini tecnici o prettamente dialettali. Non ristampata in alcuna raccolta successiva, apparve in volume solo nelle «Poesie varie» curate da Maria Pascoli.

Il secolo XX (anno XI, numero 5) [Le lacrime di Bacco; Alla sorella Ida]
Prima edizione. Minimi restauri alla brossura dorso, ma ottimamente conservato. La rivista accoglie alle pp. 377-92 il lungo articolo di Pio Schinetti «Pagine inedite di Giovanni Pascoli», di particolare interesse per le fotografie, i disegni (tra cui alcuni, su cartolina, tracciati dal poeta stesso) e i manoscritti riprodotti. L’articolo si conclude con due poesie di Pascoli al tempo inedite: la prima, «Le lacrime di Bacco», fu esclusa dalle «Poesie varie», mentre la seconda vi entrò col titolo di «Ida». Mentre l’una è di sfondo classico e mitologico, scritta durante gli anni universitari (il manoscritto della poesia è datato 1878), l’altra è un’affettuosa poesia per la sorella Ida, scritta a Matera nel 1882. Prima edizione. Esemplare con dorso e piatto inferiore posticci e mancante dell’ultima carta, ma in ottime condizioni le pagine recanti la poesia di Pascoli. Alle pp. 291-4 è accolta la prima edizione de «Il vecchio castagno», composta tra il 1903 e il 1904, poesia che confluirà di lì a poco nella terza edizione dei «Poemetti»: «In attesa dell’uscita del volume, Pascoli accolse la proposta di Giuseppe Giacosa di pubblicare la nuova lirica nella ‘Lettura’. Il 1° marzo Giacosa gli scriveva infatti: “è inedito il ‘Vecchio castagno’? Se sì lo pubblicherò con viva gioia nella ‘Lettura’ del primo aprile. Me lo consentite? È una poesia bellissima, piena di sapore montano e di giovine autunno”». Nella stessa lettera, Giacosa chiedeva a Pascoli delucidazioni su alcuni termini a lui poco chiari: e così, il poeta si decise ad allegare in bozze un piccolo dizionarietto toscano-italiano, di cui una parte fu pubblicata in calce alla poesia. Edizione originale della prima parte di «Intorno alla Minerva oscura». Minimi segni del tempo alla brossura, fioriture all’interno, ma buon esemplare. È qui pubblicato per la prima volta «La selva oscura» (pp. 425-448), il primo dei tre paragrafi che andranno a costituire il saggio dantesco «Intorno alla Minerva oscura»; lo stesso anno l’articolo sarà stampato anche in opuscolo, a Napoli, presso lo Stabilimento Tipografico Pierro e Varaldi, ma non sarà mai compreso in volume, fino alla stampa nell’edizione Vicinelli delle «Prose» dantesche di Pascoli (Mondadori, 1952). La cetra d’Achille, in «La Lettura» (anno III, numero 12)
Prima edizione. Piccole mancanze al dorso, minimi segni del tempo, ma nel complesso esemplare molto ben conservato. Alle pp. 1057-60 è pubblicata per la prima volta la poesia «La cetra d’Achille», tratta dai «Poemi conviviali», «d’imminente pubblicazione presso Zanichelli», come avvisa la nota in calce al testo. Il componimento prende spunto dal IX libro dell’«Iliade», dove l’eroe greco si intrattiene nel canto e viene menzionata la sua cetra. Una lettera scritta ad Alfredo Caselli datata 12-9-1903 sembra suggerire che la poesia fosse finita nello stesso settembre di quell’anno: Pascoli scriveva di voler mandare a Giacosa [direttore della «Lettura»] una poesia, per l’appunto «La cetra d’Achille» qui pubblicata. Prima edizione. Piatto inferiore e dorso posticci, all’interno bell’esemplare, pulito. Il fascicoletto di chiusura della rivista è costituita dal gustosissimo articolo «La penna e la fine del calamaio», firmato da Augusto Biagi, che reclamizza la «penna a serbatoio ‘Ideal’ della L. E. Watermann e C. di New York», distribuita in Italia dalla «casa L. e C. Hardmuth (Milano, via Bossi 4)». «La penna dell’avvenire esiste già nel presente», annuncia Biagi, e a dimostrazione della qualità del prodotto allega all’articolo la riproduzione di alcuni autografi di importanti artisti, scrittori e giornalisti che hanno «sposato la Waterman ed afferm[ano] l’assoluta impossibilità per essi di ricorrere ad altra penna». Tra questi, la Duse, Luigi Barzini, Marco Praga, Gerolamo Rovetta, e lo stesso Pascoli, che alla penna ‘Ideal’ ha dedicato il poemetto «La mia penna ideale» qui riprodotto: «Mi son sentito toccar l’orecchio da | due dita leggere leggere come fatte | d’ombra, e ho udito un sospiro di voce | che disse Venio... | E ho trovato sul mio banco una | penna nera [...]». La poesia di Pascoli risulta qui in prima edizione e unica, mai stampato altrove.

Rara edizione originale. Leggero foxing alla brossura, altrimenti ottimo esemplare. Firma di possesso al piatto superiore. Opuscolo assai raro stampato su carta colorata, che accoglie l’edizione originale della poesia «La notte di Natale» (inc.: «Sopra la terra le squille suonano»). Alle pagine centrali è riprodotto in fac-simile il manoscritto, all’ultima è trascritto il testo. La poesia entrerà a far parte della seconda edizione delle «Poesie varie» come componimento di apertura. La plaquette è dedicata «[...] ai marinai e soldati in Tripolitania perchè nel Natale che trascorrono in guerra giunga loro – con la voce del poeta d’Italia – la parola buona della patria lontana». La pubblicazione fu voluta dal direttore della «Rivista marittima» che chiese a Pascoli di scrivere una «parola di conforto e di esortazione della patria ai marinai e soldati impegnati in Africa nel periodo natalizio» [verificare citazione]. Se ne riscontrano solo 5 esemplari in Iccu.
