According to the "Great Man Theory", leaders are born with a set of specific skills and traits that makes an individual destined for a leadership position. Also known as a trait perspective to leadership, it suggests that certain individuals have special innate or inborn characteristics or qualities that differentiates them from non-leaders. Specifically, these characteristics were believed to include height, weight, appearance, intelligence, disposition and others. Furthermore, charismatic and inspirational leaders instil faith in a better future for the followers in terms of their self-expression, self-evaluation, and self-consistency. The history of Ottomans is complicated and complex in terms of its emperors from the beginning to the end, in addition to severe relations with Europe and Asia. In this sense, especially the ascension period constitutes great importance; because of the fact that the six emperors of the period turned the Ottoman State into an "Empire" with their individual traits and acts. Therefore, it is worth to consider them as "great men" and evaluate them in this frame in order to construe the claim. It is expected that this book sheds light to the future researches in terms of evaluating both the emperors of Ottoman Empire and the other World emperors in terms of great man theory.

"'Yadigar-i Istanbul', has been selected among 35.535 photographs from 911 photograph albums in the library of Yildiz Palace. The oldest of these albums date back to the year 1857. The photograph albums of Yildiz Palace entirely given to Istanbul University in 1924 at the behest of Ataturk are among the world's most remarkable photography collections. Perspectives of the photographers of that period have been reflected while in the selection of photographs for "Yadigar-i Istanbul". Those who see the "Yadigar-i Istanbul photos will realize the early beauties of Istanbul as well as the great changes it has undergone. As a result of the study made on 911 albums containing 35.535 photographs and on the photographers of the albums, almost 370 photographer names emerged. In "Yadigar-i Istanbul, the names of these photographers and their photograph albums are also available. It is a great contribution not only to the history of Ottoman photography but also to that of world photography. It will lead to new research in world's photography history and probably rewriting of the history of photography.".

BIOGRAPHICAL: Major Sir William Ouseley 1767-1842 British Orientalist went to Paris to learn French in 1787 and then became interested in Persian literature which he undertook to learn in Leiden 1794. He was in the year 1800 knighted by "Charles Lord Cornwallis 1738-1805 who from 1786 to 1793 had been Governor-General of India had him knighted in recognition of his promotion of oriental studies." "Ouseley's life as gentleman-scholar is marked by his unsuccessful efforts to obtain government support for a journey to Iran and by his unfulfilled ambition to become a government envoy to a Near-Eastern court. It was the diplomatic career of his brother Gore that allowed William to make the personal acquaintance of the Qajar envoy Abu'l-asan n Ili 1776-1845; q.v. who visited England between 1809 and 1810 and to become his brother's secretary when between 1810 and 1815 Gore traveled as the British ambassador to the Qajar court in Tehran. Né à Paris en 1720, Cardonne partit pour Constantinople à l’âge de neuf ans et y séjourna pendant vingt ans. Il parlait turc, arabe et persan et était très familiarisé avec les mœurs, les coutumes et le caractère des peuples du Moyen-Orient. A son retour à Paris il hérita de la chaire de langues turques et persanes au Collège Royal. En 1750 il fut nommé interprète du roi pour les langues orientales. Ce recueil de Mélanges de littérature orientale est d’un grand intérêt. Tout ce qu’il y donne est nouveau et ne se trouve ni chez d’Herbelot ni chez d’autres orientalistes. Pour chaque texte, il cite le nom de l’auteur dans la marge, ainsi que le numéro de référence des manuscrits de la Bibliothèque Royale.
