‎'Jan Van Imschoot. The end is never near' biedt een uitgebreid overzicht van het oeuvre van de Belgische schilder Jan Van Imschoot (1963, Gent, Belgi ). Jan Van Imschoot wordt vaak een vertegenwoordiger van de neo-figuratieve school genoemd, waar bijvoorbeeld ook Luc Tuymans en Marl ne Dumas deel van uitmaken. Hij beeldt in zijn schilderijen en tekeningen mensen en gebeurtenissen af. Hij vertelt daarbij verhalen vol eros en pijn, vol religieuze verwijzingen en connotaties. De figuren en objecten zijn geen concrete afbeeldingen, wel vervormde gezichtsvelden waarin het ambigue, de onzekerheid en de twijfel primeren. Van Imschoot studeerde schilderkunst in Gent, de stad waar hij woonde en werkte tot hij in 2013 naar Frankrijk verhuisde. Opvallend zijn de directheid van zijn figuratieve stijl, de uitgesproken penseelvoering en het evenwichtige en stoutmoedige gebruik van kleur. Jan Van Imschoot kiest bewust voor een heldere, soms tegenstrijdige en ironische taal. Zijn werk is opgebouwd rond historische thema's uit de literatuur en de kunstgeschiedenis en slaat bruggen met voorgangers zoals Caravaggio, Tintoretto, Goya en Manet. De kunstenaar gaat permanent in dialoog met het verleden, waarin hij zich, met een dosis cynisme, vaak richt op fenomenen of figuren die zich aan de rand van de (hedendaagse) samenleving bevinden. Dit boek brengt meer dan 220 werken van Jan Van Imschoot samen, die in combinatie met vijf begeleidende teksten een grondig inzicht bieden in de schilderspraktijk van deze Belgische meester.‎

This book investigates whether and to what extent foreign language textbooks can contribute to promoting adolescent pupils' acquisition of intercultural communicative competence. It gives a full scientific account of a research project carried out amongst Flemish learners of German. The focus of the research was on the relationships between the culture teaching approaches adopted in textbooks and the pupils' learning of culture. Although the sub-title refers to a particular group of pupils learning a particular language, the study has more general bearing and constitutes a substantial contribution to the literature, and in particular empirical research, on the development of intercultural competence in and through foreign language education. The composition of the volume reflects the affective, cognitive and contact dimensions of the culture learning process. It also gives space to the theoretical platform on which the research was built, and to the research methodology adopted. Chapter 1 sets out to contextualise and define the research topic. It clarifies the study's position within the field of culture-and-language learning-and-teaching theory, practice and research. It also situates the investigation into the specific context of teaching and learning foreign languages-and-cultures in Flanders. In chapter 2 the theoretical framework informing the study is developed. Chapter 3 provides an overview of the techniques of data collection and analysis employed, of the kinds of data collected, and of the chronology of data collection. Chapters 4, 5 and 6 provide an interpretative description and analysis of the investigation's key concepts. Chapters 4 and 5 focus on the pupils' culture learning processes and analyse relationships between attitude, contact and perception data. In chapter 6 the culture teaching approaches adopted in the investigated textbook series are described and evaluated with regard to their potential for promoting the pupils' learning of culture. Chapter 7, finally, provides a summary overview of the study's main findings and presents the main conclusions that can be drawn from the evidence presented in earlier chapters. It estimates the value of the study's research methodology and theoretical framework. It also reflects on how the research findings can find application and implementation.‎

Dit erudiete proefschrift werd door de vakpers unaniem geprezen als een uiterst zorgvuldige en zeer leesbare reconstructie van een vrijwel onbekend facet van de negentiende-eeuwse letterkunde in Vlaanderen: de fascinatie die op tal van schrijvers uitging van de contemporaine Nederduitse literatuur, met name van haar boegbeeld Klaus Groth. Zowel de jonge Pol de Mont als de debuterende schrijfsters Rosalie en Virginie Loveling schoolden zich aan hem, maar ook Gezelle was in diverse fasen van zijn leven getroffen door een dialectliteratuur die gelijke doelstellingen nastreefde als de herlevende Vlaamse literatuur. ‎Between 1909 and 1914, Fernand L ger developed into one of the foremost Cubists. An important role in that development was played by a series of paintings he made in 1911-1912, the so-called Fum es sur les toits (Smoke Over Rooftops). These works depict the view from his Paris studio, where he looked out over rooftops with plumes of smoke drifting above. He seized upon the contrast between soft, ever changing clouds of smoke and hard, angular architectural masses as a means of paving the way to a more abstract and radical artistic language. Several years ago a previously unknown painting was discovered on the back of a canvas by L ger in the Triton Collection Foundation. That discovery prompted this publication, which also examines the influence exerted on L ger by such artists as C zanne, Picasso and Braque. ‎Der Dordrechter Landschaftsmaler Smak-Gregoor war Neffe und Schüler von A. van Strij I (1753-1826) und dessen Bruder J. van Strij (1756-1815) und nahm außerdem noch Unterricht bei M. Versteegh (1756-1843) und W. van Leens (1753-1825). Werke von ihm besitzen die Museen in Brüssel und Dordrecht.‎
