Bumping and rubbing to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and rubbing to the book corners. Light browning and some staining to the text block edges. Handling marks and light browning to the endpapers. There is an erasure mark to the front paste-down and the previous owner's name to the top left-hand corner of the free front end paper. Plaintext dustwrapper with black and red background and white and red titles to the front panel and backstrip. Multiple small tears some with pieces missing to the top dustwrapper edge . the lower edges of the backstrip have small splits measuring 0.25 ". Darkening of the backstrip and of the renal dustwrapper panel which has also some foxing marks and stains. Rubbing to either side of the backstrip edge. Clipping of the dustwrapper front fold over lower right-hand corner. There is a stain that measures 2" to the lower edge of the front fold over creas which also impinges upon the verso of the dustwrapper. Browning and some other stains to the verso of the dustwrapper. The history of the British mystery novel which includes "up to date" advice to budding mystery writers Techniques' 'Do's and Don'ts' 'Titles Settings and Locales' etc. The first 100 pages of the book are devoted to a critical assessment of many mystery novels published from 1918 to 1950.
