Seconde édition, publiée l'année de l'originale, de cet ouvrage qui renferme quatre études sur la littérature et la poésie grecques: Orphée, Eschyle, Sophocle, Euripide. L'ouvrage est illustré de 12 planches gravées hors texte. Dioclès Fabre d'Olivet (1811-1848) cherche à démontrer comment, chez les Hellènes, les poètes et spécialement Orphée, "à la fois prêtre, médecin, poète, législateur", ont eu la tâche de fonder une "nouvelle civilisation" et de "fixer sur le sol des tribus jusque-là errantes". Caillet (n°3777), attribue par erreur l'oeuvre à Antoine Fabre d'Olivet, le philologue et occultiste français, illustre père de l’auteur. Bel exemplaire, frais, très bien relié à l'époque.
