Edition originale illustrée d’une planche dépliante gravée à l’eau-forte par Fortier (140 x 191 mm) représentant les galeries de bois du Palais Royal et le célèbre "113", la plus fameuse maison de jeu. Au premier plan, trois jeunes "fashionables" sont abordés par des "nymphes", avec la légende: "Veux-tu monter, mon bel homme ? Je suis bien aimable, bien complaisante". L’éditeur, dans une spirituelle introduction, dénonce l’hypocrisie de l’auteur du texte qui stigmatise les "nymphes" et leurs moeurs. Lui, au contraire, glorifie les "demoiselles du Palais", leur beauté, leur séduction, la gaîté, la couleur, la fantaisie et le bonheur qu’elles prodiguent généreusement, ainsi que la variété des plaisirs qu’elles offrent aux goûts de chacun. Il ironise sur "le temps des Clélie et des Amadis", "où l’on osait baiser la main de sa dame qu’au onzième volume" et fait plus largement l’apologie de la volupté et du plaisir des sens. L’ouvrage est cité comme une source sur l'évolution du langage et de l’argot parisien de la période. (Drujon, 'Livres condamnés', p. 283.
