Dutch language text telling the story of Dr. Corydon M. Wassell, A medic stationed on U.S.N. Marblehead during the battle of the Java Sea, `942. After the battle Dr. Wassell with some crew was sent ashore to round-up officers and men after the battle.Under the rapidly advancing japanese troops Dr. Wassell succeeded to escape with the men, including some wounded soldiers, not fit to be evacuated. His heroic entreprise was mentioned in a radio speech by Presiden Roosevelt and he received the Navy Cross for great bravery. Ma movie, produced by Cecil B. DeMille was produces with as main character Gary Cooper as Dr. Wassell. Good copy. (some minor stains on lower outer cover).‎

‎S.I., P. Noordhoff, s.n. [circa], 1962. he 1952 GSM (General Service Medal) is a silver medal, 36mm. wide. The obverse shows the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse shows a Nike (allegoric figure of victory) presenting an oak leave wreath to a kneeling warrior. The 32mm. wide ribbon is dark green with 2 outer stripes of deep purple. This medal has been awarded to G. Armstrong, further data are undisclosed. A very good copy of this Service Medal.‎

Text within eleborate monochrome illustrated lithographed pictorial bvorders with images of Gun-batteries, traditional indonesian weapons, flags some enivronmental views from Lombok, crowned by a large chromolithographed Royal Dutch National Coat-of-Arms with the said Cross beneath flanked by some traditional indonesian environmental views, at top of margin. Lithographed, drawn and designed by Newerbach Riffarth. Official entirely lithographed dutch language Charter, with chromolithographed Royal Dutch State Coat-of-Arms at top margin, presented to a Dutch army fuselier from frisian ancestry, who won a military service medal for gallantry during the so-called Lombo expedition 26 June-december 24, 1894. Actually awarded by Royal Dutch Decree March 17, 1896. Very well preserved copy. Rare. (some tears on folds skilfully restored, some minimal foxing to left margin, small piece of top margin gone, NOT touching text/illustration at all).‎

Original bronze military MEDAL, with Royal Dutch Crown at top, attached to original tri-coloured ribbon, representing the Dutch Flag, with three bars representing campaigns 1947, 1948 and 1949 in Netherlands India at top. Bronze medal designed by Frans Smits and produced by Koninklijke Begeer, Voorschoten municipality, The Netherlands. Original bronze medal , complete with ribbon and three campaign bars, awarded to a dutch military serving in post-war Indonesia during the dutch-indonesian [armed] dispute 1945-1950. Very well preserved, ribbon in very fresh colouring indeed. A nice piece of memorabilia.‎

As as officer in the 1st Cavalry Division during 1976/8 he saw combat in some of the fiercest encounters of the war.His gallantry earned him a fistful of medals, including the Silver Star, one of the highest decorations awarded by the American Army.During his time there he was captured and tortured by the Vietcong and he managed to escaped.On his return to the UK he married, became a father and started a successful career in business.It seemed that his past was behind him, until 30 years later when a trivial encounter with the police set off a catastrophic chain of events.He lost everything and in tyring to rebuild his life he once more had to confront the traumatic events of Vietnam he had buried so deep. His terrifying yet inspiring journey is told in this book.‎
