All 25 engravings are present and un-coloured and in black and white as issued. Some minor foxing to the early/late pages of the book. Recently rebound in a stunning half-leather binding with marbled boards in contemporary sympathetic style with a green leather label to the spine lettered in gilt. The binding here certainly does justice to the contents. The text includes Arachnida and Crustacea. The book is dedicated to "Miss Edgeworth" herself the uncertain author according to Freeman of "Dialogues on Botany for the Use of Young Persons" 1819 also published by R Hunter. A lovely copy. Direct Line of Railway Connecting South Wales Gloucester Cheltenham Oxford Tring and London
G. A. Williams J. Lee etc Cheltenham 1836. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/not applicable. A rare pamphlet that puts the case for a line as per the title above which the promoters thought would be an improvement on or possibly complement the Great Western route via Didcot. As history has proved the scheme did not materialise. The notion of an east-west route outlined here as Norwich to Gloucester via Cambridge and Tring would certainly appeal even today. However the mention of the term 'inclined plane' in the projected route may partly explain why the venture was a non-starter. Ottley 6019 another pamphlet of 1836 and titled 'A Voice from Cheltenham.' and signed 'A Shareholder in the Tring Co.' suggests further complications - 'We have been grossly misled and deluded'. Very good copy paper slightly cockled minor browning of the first and last leaves. Recent good quality binding of quarter calf gilt lettered on the spine with marbled paper boards. No inscriptions. 23 pages. Ottley First Supplement 8565. OCLC does not record any copies although Library Hub shows 2 UK locations viz Oxford and Leicester Universities. Approx. size 8.5" by 5.5". s.l.; s.n. 1906. 1906. Octavo pp. 26. Pictorial card-wraps illustrated with chromolithographs. Illustrated throughout including 6 further chromolithograph plates. Printed on blue buff and green papers. Small ink numeral to upper corner of upper cover; light toning to edges of covers; binding thread loosened with slight loss around stitching; unusual stitched repair to pages 23-24; occasional spots of smudging to contents but generally clean and bright plates particularly fresh. A very good copy. A curious and charming book which is a variation on the 'Dolly's Doings' series of children's rhyming books. This book is to our knowledge the only book in the series that is not a miniature book. As is so often the case with children's books of the nineteenth-century this title lacks any publication information. Richly illustrated this book replicates the figure of Dolly from an edition illustrated by 'E. Patterson' but the illustrations here are finer richer and deeper than those of comparable titles. COPAC locates a Glasgow and a Berlin edition of Dolly's Doings but not this book. Scarce. s.l.; s.n., [1906?]. paperback
