A good copy bound in original blind stamped cloth nicely rebacked with dark green calf red morocco label. Inscribed at the head of the title-page "Caroline Hullah from Mamma Nov 21st 1848. 12mo. John W. Parker. 1846. ~ First published in 1833 BL Cambridge 1836 Leicester 1837 BL 1840 NT Cambridge and 1846 Nottingham. Despite the publication of many editions the survival rate is low as recorded on Copac. A note at the head of the table of contents suggests that "the following heads of contents may be readily converted by the teacher into a series of questions for the examination of pupils." Caroline Hullah born c1840 may have been the daughter of John and Caroline Hullah neé Foster. Her mother was a novelist and contributor to amongst others The Girls Own Paper The Woman at Home the Family Herald and The English Illustrated Magazine but very little is known about her life. Her father collaborated with Dickens on an operetta The Village Coquettes. It was not a success and many years later Dickens was happy to buy up the remaining stocks of the libretto published by Bentley for nine pounds and nine shillings. <br/> <br/> John W. The book is predominantly in Malaysian and pertains to the installation of His Majesty Tuanku Ismail Nasiruddin Shah in Kuala Lumpur in 1966. 36pp. Bound in original publisher's yellow hardboards - stamped in gilt and blue to the front board. The text supported by a number of photographic reproductions in colour of the Shah and his wife the crown jewels ceremonial swords/daggers etc. Also some other photographic reproductions in b/w of three other dignatories. No inscriptions. Light or slight spotting to the front endpaper and very slight insect damage to the extreme tail of this page. Some spotting to the upper fore-edge too. Notable spotting to the spine and mostly to the board edges - inside and out with some age toning to the spine too. Slight bowing of the boards too. The accompanying booklet is predominantly in English and is in lovely fresh clean bright condition bound in yellow card covers with both a ribbon and staple as binders. It gives a precise chronology of events and was presumably handed out to those perhaps English speakers only who attended the ceremony. Both items very scarce. Malaysian Government hardcover‎

An interesting report regarding engineering history and practice with regards flooding and reservoirs in Great Britain at the start of the twentieth century. In the original paper wraps. This report has some interesting provenance as it is from the library of Frederic Newhouse 1883-1969 sometime inspector-general of Egyptian irrigation in the Sudan. With his inscription to the front wrap. With a large folding diagram regarding flood levels and several in-text diagrams and tables. This report was issued as a part of a series of reports commissioned by the "Institution of Civil Engineers". The Institution was the first professional engineering body and was formed during the late eighteenth/early nineteenth centuries. The ICE have issued numerous works over the years. This work looks at overflow weirs flood estimates and more. In the original paper wraps. Externally generally smart with handling marks to wraps. Prior owner's inscription to the front wrap F Newhouse Twickenham and his shelf notes. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean.
