Original Typed Document Signed by William Faulkner – the Agreement of Sale Contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios to purchase the rights to an untitled Faulkner short story set in a mythical Latin American Kingdom. Single sheet signed on the verso by William Faulkner and dated by him “30 August 1933â€. With the blindstamp and signature of the Notary Public in Lafayette Mississippi. Near fine with slightly torn punch holes at top and very faint paper clip mark. In the early 1930s MGM Studios offered Faulkner work as a screenwriter in Hollywood. As literary critic and noted authority on Faulkner’s work Andre Bleikasten put it he “was in dire need of money and had no idea how to get it…So he went to Hollywood.†He arrived in Culver City California in May 1932 experiencing a fair share of ambivalence for both the movie culture and the studio system. He did enjoy a personal and professional relationship with director Howard Hawks whose brother William Hawks became Faulkner's Hollywood agent. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer unknown

Oxford Mississippi ca. 1935. Fine. 4-1/2 x 6-3/4 inches. A typed ownership label of Dan Brennan of Minneapolis is affixed to verso. Brennan as an aspiring author hitchhiked to Oxford to meet William Faulkner. Notes on the verso probably in his hand in ink and pencil read: "Bill writing "Go Down Moses" in side yard -- Finished story here. 2 days started writing it indoor." unknown

n.p. Richard B. Crowder 1956 first edition. An over-sized b&w photo of the Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize-winning author the image is of him from the shoulder up holding a pipe in his left hand while looking slightly to his right lower left-hand corner carries Faulkner's name in cursive by the photographer the lower right-hand corner is signed by Crowder and dated 1956 apparently the photographer was a Memphis doctor who was treating Faulkner for a "nervous" disorder in the 1950s the verso carries Crowder's inscription "For Mr. & Mrs. Vik/with best wishes/Richard B. Crowder/December 8 1959" this silver gelatin print measures 11X14 inches and is printed on matte canvas-textured paper. Very good with a bit of wear and some blotching from the printing process that only partially affects the image of Faulkner. n.p., Richard B. Crowder, 1956, first edition. unknown
