New York: The Modern Library 1967. First Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. First thus Toledano 378.1. Top edge lightly foxed jacket faintly toned. 1967 Hard Cover. We have more books available by this author!. 250 pp. 8vo. A novel by the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. "One of William Faulkner's finest novels As I Lay Dying was originally published in 1930 and remains a captivating and stylistically innovative work. The story revolves around a grim yet darkly humorous pilgrimage as Addie Bundren's family sets out to fulfill her last wish: to be buried in her native Jefferson Mississippi far from the miserable backwater surroundings of her married life. Told through multiple voices it vividly brings to life Faulkner's imaginary South one of the great invented landscapes in all of literature and is replete with the poignant impoverished violent and hypnotically fascinating characters that were his trademark. Faulkner William
As I Lay Dying.
New York: Jonathan Cape and Harrison Smith 1939. First edition first issue one of 750 copies with dropped "I" on p. 11 and in the first state binding with lettering unbroken of this work which consistently ranks as one of the greatest works of twentieth century literature. Octavo original cloth. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with light shelfwear. An exceptional example. Faulkner had stated to have written As I Lay Dying in six weeks with no revisions and its stream-of-consciousness style suggests such an immersive spontaneity. "I set out deliberately to write a tour-de-force. Before I ever put pen to paper and set down the first word I knew what the last word would be and almost where the last period would fall" William Faulkner on As I Lay Dying. "No man ever put more of his heart and soul into the written word than did William Faulkner. If you want to know all you can about that heart and soul the fiction where he put it is still right there" Eudora Welty. Listed by Modern Library as one of the 100 greatest novels of the twentieth century. It is the basis for the 2013 film bearing the same name directed and co-written by and starring James Franco. FAULKNER William
Autograph manuscript
Very Good. Autograph manuscript 8.5 x 11 inch blank leaf half page covered. While it is unclear to which if any of Faulkner's works this page might be linked it does seem rather early possibly from his New Orleans period. It reads in part: "I came to the center of the square and stopped and stood for a moment and let my eyes wander about -- wandering from the darkened store fronts to the center of the square where the marbled confederate soldier stood in strange whitened contrast to the shadowed of the deeply shaded court yard." A visually handsome page from Faulkner in his neat and tiny hand some lines crossed over in his determined manner. Manuscript pages from Faulkner such as this one have become quite uncommon on the market.

unknown books

FAULKNER William
Autograph manuscript
Very Good. Autograph manuscript 8.5 x 11 inch blank leaf. The handwriting in this manuscript especially at times shows similarities to Faulkner's more calligraphic style as can be seen with The Marionettes and other early manuscripts. Primarily dialogue appears on this page with scattered corrections throughout. "You've flown over this route a hundred times" evokes Pylon but the exact use or lack of use of this page is unclear in spite of some effort. Hardly Faulkner at his best but still interesting and worthy of further study. A scarce if fragmented relic from Faulkner.

unknown books

Petersen A16.1a. Doctor Martino is a collection of short stories that includes "Fox Hunt" "There Was a Queen" "The Leg" "Mountain Victory" "Death Drag" and "Honor" among others. In these stories Faulkner experiments with a variety of literary styles and techniques; some of the stories such as "Doctor Martino" and "Beyond" contain elements of the supernatural while others such as "Black Music" and "Smoke" are indicative of the author's experimentation with the detective genre. Notably the most popular stories in the collection including "The Hound" and "Wash" are set in the post-war south in Faulkner's typical fashion and foreshadow his later novels The Hamlet 1940 and Absalom Absalom! 1936. FATHER ABRAHAM
New York: Red Ozier Press 1983. quarter Japanese cloth with paste paper-covered boards. Red Ozier Press. large 8vo. quarter Japanese cloth with paste paper-covered boards. ii 70 5 pages. Limited to 210 numbered copies Peich 48. Edited by James B. Meriwether. Title page hand lettered by Anita Karl. The stunning paste papers are by Claire Maziarczyk. This book is the beginning of a novel which William Faulkner tried repeatedly to write for a period of almost a decade and a half during the earlier part of his career--the novel about the Snopes family which he finally completed and published as The Hamletin 1940. Probably written in late 1926 the twenty-four page manuscript of Father Abrahamhere first published is apparently the earliest surviving attempt at this Snopes novel. The publication of this work was first conceived as a project by a group of students to raise funds for the Rare Book Collection at the New York Public Library and enable NYPL to purchase more fine press books. Once production was well underway the New York Times published an article on the project which resulted in the entire edition selling out in thirty-six hours. With a facsimile selection of Faulkner's manuscript. John DePol's wood engraving for the initial page of Faulkner's text is printed in tan blue and black and spans the facing pages. Title page printed with black and two shades of blue. Printed on laid paper. Spine ever-so-slightly faded with very little wear to spine rear cover and corners. Red Ozier Press unknown books
