Among his other works is Pirhe Eliyah (Jerusalem 1909) and Eben Moshe (Jerusalem 1914) on the Talmud. The Haggadah was published by his widow Rivkah Reizel in his memory. The great Polish authority R. Solomon Luria (d. 1574) , who, in a responsum on procedure where the kabbalah differs from the codes (Responsa Rashal [Fuerth, 1768], no. 98) , boldly rejects the kabbalistic ruling and goes on to state that R. Simeon ben Yohai, the traditional author of the Zohar, is not followed in his legal decisions, so that even if he came back to earth, we would be obliged to ignore his rulings. ('The Responsa of Rabbi Joseph Hayyim of Baghdad', Perspectives on Jews and Judaism: Essays in Honor of Wolfe Kelman; 1978) . Solomon b. Jehiel Luria (Maharshal or Rashal) : Rabbi and author; born in Brest-Litovsk, Lithuania, 1510; died at Lublin Nov. 7, 1573. When still a youth his parents sent him to Posen, where he studied under the guidance of his grandfather Rabbi Isaac Klauberia. He left Posen in 1535, owing to an extensive fire which destroyed his grandfather's property. On his return to his native place he assiduously continued his studies. Here he married Lipka, daughter of Rabbi Kalonymus. After some time he was elected rabbi of Brest, and established a yeshibah there. About 1550 he received the appointment of rabbi and head of the yeshibah at Ostrog, and in 1555 he moved to Lublin, where he became head of the famous yeshibah. (1906 JE) Bound in later half calf, with gilt title on spine, and marbled boards. Printed on heavy ragpaper. Subjects: Responsa - 1040-1600. Jewish law. First edition. Original illustrated wrappers, 12mo, 43, 10 pages. Text in English and Hebrew. 13 drawings made by a Jewish woman of her fellow inmates while in the concentration camp at Leibitsch which consisted of 1200 Jewish women who had been deported from the Kaunas Ghetto in East Prussia. Lurie was liberated by the Red Army on 21 January 1945. In March 1945 she reached a camp in Italy, where she met Jewish soldiers from Palestine who were serving in the British army. One of them, the artist Menahem Shemi, organized an exhibition of drawings from the camps, which resulted in the publication of a booklet Jewesses in Slavery. This contained drawings by Lurie from Stutthof and Leibitz and was published by the Jewish Soldiers' Club of Rome in 1945. Lurie also created stage sets for the military song and dance group in the camp, which was founded by Eliahu Goldberg and Mordechai Zeira. Lurie reached Israel (Palestine) in July 1945 and was received with great excitement. Her stories were published in the press and her drawings were exhibited in exhibitions. In 1946 she was again awarded the Dizengoff Prize for a sketch Girl with Yellow Badge, which she had made in the Kovno ghetto (World ORT and Beit Lohamei Haghetaot, 2001) . He made his literary debut with the collection of stories Night and Hope (1958) filmed as Z. Brynychs A Transport from Paradise (1962) . Original paper wrappings, 8vo, 88 pages. In German. Title translates as, "Shulchan Aruch (The Set Table) . The Four Rulebooks of the Jews. " Alfonz Luzsenszky was a monk in the Servita order who left because of illness and became a journalist. He translated parts of the Talmud and was prosecuted, but not convicted, in 1924 for racial hatred based on his Talmud translations. After World War II, he was re-tried for his Antisemitic Talmud translations and was sentenced to 10 years in prison (Metapedia, 2017) . OCLC lists 5 copies online (Bibliothek Der Technischen Universitat, Freie Univ Berlin, Universitãtsbibliothek Wãrzburg, Smith Col, & Bar Ilan Univ) , only one in the US. Very Good condition.
