Title translates to Tractate Kiddushin from the Babylonian Talmud. Includes intricately illustrated title page with luxurious royal pillared structure with urns and lion statues. Tractate Kiddushin focuses on marriage law. The Vaad Hatzalah was an organization to rescue Jews in Europe from the Holocaust. It was founded in November 1939 by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada (Wikipedia, 2016) . After the war, Vaad Hatzalah published special editions of important Jewish and rabbinic texts for the survivors living in the DP camps in Germany. Some editions, like this one, were printed in New York, where supplies and prototypes of Jewish texts were more readily available. Born in Budapest, he went to Paris in 1928. From 1936 to 1960 he was a professor of Bible and theology at the Seminaire Isralite of France. He lectured at the Ecole Pratique de Hautes Etudes at the Sorbonne in 1937, and was appointed director of studies in 1954. From 1940 he was active in the oriental department of the Institut de Recherches et d'Histoire des Textes and from 1950, edited the Revue des Etudes Juives. In 1970 he was appointed professor at the University of Paris (Sorbonne) . He wrote numerous works, notably on Arabic and Jewish philosophy. On the Kabbalah, and on Arab manuscripts. In 1970 he was appointed professor at the University of Paris (Sorbonne) . He wrote numerous works, notably on Arabic and Jewish philosophy. On the Kabbalah, and on Arab manuscripts. He specialized in the study of the beginnings of Jewish philosophy and Kabbalah and of the relationship between these two disciplines.
