Virginia Woolf
Mrs. Dalloway

First Edition. Hardcover. No dust jacket. Very good condition. Leatherette flexcovers in forest green. Gold "Bernhart" torchbearer logo stamped onto the front cover facing left. Gilt lettering on the spine to match. Endpapers in yellow and cream bearing the same bernhart design. This design format is characteristic of the mid-late 1920's era of modern library publications. This is an attractive little book: the flexcovers are in great condition with only the tiniest signs of shelf wear and fraying at the very corners. The gilt designs are intact clear and shiny. The first three pages of the book starting with the free endpaper have chipped upper right corners. There is also a small tear in page 69. Otherwise the interior is unmarked clean and crisp. On the back free endpaper and the inside of the back cover there is a blindstamp reading "R. H. MACY & CO. Inc." indicating that the book was likely once a piece of merchandise in a Macy's department store. The blindstamp made a shallow impression that can be subtly seen from the outside of the back cover.
Modern Library hardcover

Katherine is the bored frustrated granddaughter of an eminent English poet. She lives at her parents’ home and is engaged to a prig who exemplifies the stultifying life from which she wishes to be free until she meets a possible avenue of escape in the person of Ralph Denham. Mary Datchet on the other hand represents an alternative to marriage―she has been to college lives on her own and finds fulfillment in working for the women’s rights movement.&&LBR&&R&&LBR&&RAs the story dances delightfully among the novel’s brilliantly drawn characters serious questions about the nature of romance arise.
