La prima antologia di sociologia dell’educazione pubblicata in Italia che raccoglie i testi considerati più importanti sulla scuola e le funzioni che ha svolto e svolge. Presenta tredici saggi divisi in tre parti. La prima riguarda i sistemi scolastici e i loro rapporti con le strutture sociali e si apre con un saggio molto famoso del filosofo marxista Louis Althusser dal titolo “ideologia e apparati ideologici di stato”. La seconda ha a che fare con i processi di selezione e inizia con un articolo di un altro notissimo studioso francese, il sociologo Pierre Bourdieu. La terza verte invece sui processi di socializzazione e presenta, oltre a contributi di carattere teorico, i risultati di alcune ricerche empiriche sull’insegnamento della storia e dell’educazione civica.
