‎Charles Muehlhauser Estate Release of Dower 1915 to Jacob B. Kline‎

‎unknown 1915. Near Fine. 5 typescript leaves in blue folded cover stamped "May 17 1915." Charles Muehlhauser died intestate on Dec. 24 1874 leaving his widow Mary Muehlhauser and seven children. Mary Muehlhauser died on 3 April 1915 and by this document her remaining heirs released the dower righst to four tracts of land in Upper Salford Township Montgomery County Pa. to Jacob B. Kline. Signed on May 15 1915 by Hattie R. Reiff Allen G. Reiff William F. Dannehower William F. Muehlhauser Alfred F. Muehlhauser Morris F. Muehlhauser William D. Rowland Katharine H. Fox and T. Darl Buckwalter. Embossed stamp of Katherine H. Fox the notary public on the last leaf. In Near Fine Condition: very slightly soiled.‎

‎Preston Retreat unknown Philadelphia: Preston Retreat 1933. Very Good . Together with an extract from the will of Dr. Jonas Preston and the Address of Eli K. Price esq. at the laying of the corner-stone July 17 1837." 2 44 p. frontispiece; 22 cm. Stapled grey paper covers printed in black. List of managers as of 1933 on p. 2 has been edited by a former owner who crossed out five names and added five others. Dr. Jonas Preston 1764-1836 left his estate to establish a "Lying-in Hospital for Indigent Married Women of good character" in Philadelphia. The Preston Retreat building designed by Thomas U. Walter was completed in 1840; insufficient funds prevented the maternity hospital from opening until 1866. For nearly 100 years it provided superior care for childbirth; it merged with Pennsylvania Hospital in 1960 and the building was demolished in 1963. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: one vertical crease through the middle; annotations on p. 2 as noted; otherwise clean and tight.‎

"It is an undeniable fact that Europeans do not know how to live; they have no idea of luxuries and very little of comforts." p. 47 The anonymous author emphasizes the scandalous aspects of life in Paris as much as possible the can-can "consists of high kicking and lascivious posturing by depraved women.". Contains amusing descriptions of restaurants cafes and theaters; parks monuments cemeteries and catacombs; cultural and educational institutions; horse races and festivals; and street life with the types of people to be seen: students artists' models vendors socialists anarchists gamblers and criminals. In general the section on Paris presents the fascinating and slightly scandalous world first dramatised for the world in the previous year in Puccini's La Bohème. The section on London emphasizes the city's history and architecture. With extracts from other documents annexed to the note relating to German branches of international law during 1914 1915 1916." 2 81 p.; 26 cm. Brown speckled paper over boards with title printed in black on spine and front cover. Bookplate of Washington County Historical Society on front fixed endpaper indicating that the book was given to the Society by Sir Gilbert Parker on Jan. 26 1917. Parker had headed Britain's propaganda efforts in the United States since 1914. Eight days after Parker gave this book to the Washington County Historical Society President Woodrow Wilson severed diplomatic ties with Germany and Parker resigned as head of propaganda in the United States feeling that his work was done. Shelf number in ink at head of front cover and front free endpaper. Additonal bookplate for Washington County Historical Society on back fixed endpaper. The documents reproduced here relate to Germany deporting over 20000 civilian women and teenagers from Lille and environs and making them into forced agricultural laborers in April 1916. ‎Pierre-Laurent BRENOT (1913-1998), affichiste des "années 50", formé par l'Ecole Estienne, devient dessinateur de mode puis collaborateur de la fameuse Agence De La Vasselais qui regroupe les principaux affichistes de l'après-guerre. Il est aussi un illustrateur au talent reconnu. Dans la presse de charme ses couvertures pour le Rire ou la Vie Parisienne séduisaient un très large public. Ses femmes dessinées glamour et sexy ont gagné l'appellation de "BRENOT-Girls" ou "La Pin-up française", faisant fureur dans les calendriers automobiles et animaient les murs de nos villes. (Exposition FORNEY 1996). Une jeune fille, la bouche légèrement entrouverte, nous invite au silence. A moins que... Infimes usures.‎

‎Eau-forte, datant de 1925, d'Albert BESNARD (Paris 1849-1934), célèbre artiste peintre, décorateur et graveur français connu surtout pour ses eau-fortes, représente une femme, de dos trois-quart, s'éveillant, dénudée sur ses draps, portant à ses lèvres un bol de thé. Etat du dessous d'impression à la poupée par la Maison Porcabeuf et Compagnie dont l'oeuvre originale se trouve au Musée du Luxembourg. Un tirage en deux états a été éffectué dans son "Traité d'enluminure d'Art du Pochoir" paru en 1925. Légères salissures et infimes mouillures marginales.‎

En outre Breuer est connu comme un pionnier du modernisme à l'école de Berlin pour la sculpture.‎

‎Peter Breuer est un grand sculpteur allemand, né à Berlin. Il réalise des grands monuments. en bronze et en marbre.Peter Breuer (1856-1930).Peter Breuer est né le 19 mai 1856 à Cologne, en Allemagne et est devenu un célèbre sculpteur allemand, bien connu pour ses monuments exécutés et dépeint. En outre Breuer est connu comme un pionnier du modernisme à l'école de Berlin pour la sculpture. L'école de Berlin de la sculpture était un mouvement du 19e siècle; environ 400 sculpteurs ont appartenus à ce mouvement qui mettait l'accent sur la création de monuments commémoratifs et dépeint caractérisé par le réalisme ainsi que par le naturalisme. Ce mouvement a commencé l'école alias en 1785 avec Johann Gottfried Schadow (* 20 mai 1764 à Berlin; Janvier 27, 1850 ibidem) et s'est terminée avec les étudiants de Reinhold Begas (* Juillet 15, 1831 à Schöneberg; Août 3, 1911 ibidem) . Le modernisme, Breuer a progressé à l'école, est entendu comme un mouvement ou des changements de tous les domaines de la vie, y compris l'art, l'architecture, la mode et a été également caractérisée par la fixation d'un limite à la tradition. Depuis le 19ème siècle le terminus est également utilisé pour tracer un contour entre les temps passés et des temps contemporains. Le sculpteur allemand a également enseigné à l'Académie d'art de Berlin à Berlin, Charlottenburg. Là, il a travaillé un professeur et donne des cours de et des lectures. Aujourd'hui l'établissement est appelé Berlin Université des Arts (en allemand: Berliner Akademie der Künste bildenden). Alors que Breuer a été d'y travailler Fritz Roll (* Mars 16, 1879; Août 1, 1956), Hans Dammann (* Juillet 16, 1867; 15 Juillet, 1942), Rudolf Belling (* Août 26, 1886; 9 Juillet 1972), Léopold Fleischhacker (* 13 mai 1882; 11 Septembre, 1946) et Felix Pfeifer (* Novembre 9, 1871; Mars 6, 1945) ont assisté à ses cours. Comme Breuer sculpteur a réalisé de nombreux bustes et des sculptures surdimensionnées, à temps partiel encore obtenu et exposés ou situés dans des lieux publics ouverts au public. Appréciable dans ce contexte est le soi-disant "Monument-groupe 23", situé au Tiergarten, Berlin ou la statue de Johann Sigismund (* Novembre 8 1572, 23 Décembre, 1619), un prince-électeur de la Marche de Brandebourg. Breuer a également signé la sculpture Icare au-dessus de l'Otto-Lilienthal-mémoire à Bäkepark Berlin-Steglitz. Elle a été créée en 1914 et est toujours situé à l'intérieur du parc. Une autre sculpture, il a créé et une fois exposée en public était un mémoire de Beethoven. La sculpture a été conçue par Breuer, mais finalement exécuté par son assistant Friedrich Diederich. La sculpture n'a pas été exposés pendant la durée de vie de Breuer, qui est décédé le 1 mai 1930 à Berlin, mais à titre posthume à la banque du Rhin à Bonn, en Allemagne. ‎Tome I seul sans les gravures annoncées, de ce recueil de faits divers réunis par Robert Estienne (Paris 1723-1794), libraire et publiciste (Barbier I, col 541). Le 2e ouvrage est un épisode de la lutte contre le Jansénisme: l'Archevêque de Lyon fut accusé d'être Janséniste pour avoir promulgué une ordonnance favorable aux Soeurs Hospitalières du Faubourg Saint Marcel de Paris (qui rejetaient la Bulle Unigenitus). Cette "lettre" constitue sa défense contre une telle accusation.‎
