Ascher: Fabric-Art-Fashion (Victoria and Albert Museum)
Exhibition catalog published to coincide with the show held at the publisher's gallery from April 15 to June 14, 1987. Covers show light shelf wear only with some sunning at upper edge and page end edge. Previous owner's signatue and date on half title page. Printed endpapers. Text/interior is in Fine condition and filled with large format full color, often full page photos, prints, designs, fabric samples. Perfect bound, spine is intact and unblemished but appears somewhat fragile due to the age and size of the book. Shouldn't be handled roughly. "Lavishly illustrated, this book shows how the Aschers united elements from the complex worlds of fabrics, art and fashion, providing fashion designers with a constant flow of inventive textiles from the immediate post-war years until today. Art for fabric, Zika Ascher's liason with artists in the later 1940s which produced a remarkable series of screen-printed head squares, is investigated and the works are illustrated in color for the first time. The list of notables who designed these squares reads like a roll call of mid twentieth-century art, and included Christian Berard, Alexander Calder, Andre Derain, Barbara Hepworth, Marie Laurencin, Ben Nicholson, Graham Sutherland and Feliks Topolski. Four immense printed linen wall panels of 1948 by Henry Moore and Henri Matisse represent the adventurous extremes to which Ascher took this artist/producer venture. Fashion begins with fabric. This part of the Ascher story highlights the firm's output from the 1940s. Illustrious designers including Hardy Amies, Balenciaga, Capucci, Cardin, Dior, Fabiani, Givenchy, Madame Gres, Lanvin-Castillo, Yves Stint Laurent, and Mary Quant were supplied with selections of printed and woven textiles, which were the starting points for their modish clothes. Full-scale fabric samples from the Ascher records are reproduced, alongside photographs of models wearing designer garments in the same materials, together offering a uniqe view of the varied used of trend-setting fashion fabrics...... 263 pages.

Les Petites Filles
Paris: Chez Paul Rosenberg 1923. First Limited Edition. Hardcover. Paper pastedown. Slipcase with paper pastedown. Near Fine. A charmer by the French Cubist one of the small number of important female members of the movement although the artwork in this book has more kinship to Cassatt or Renoir than strict Cubism. No. 207 of 250 limitation. Very scarce with no copies located on OCLC First Search. Squarish 48mo. 101 by 97 mm. Unpaginated 19 color lithograph plates one other b/w plate captions with the names of the subjects on the facing pages and numerous blanks between pages as if this were an actual sketchbook album. Indeed an outstanding aspect of the book is how the artwork can be mistaken for the actual watercolors as opposed to prints of watercolors. The publisher deepens the illusion with captions and the title on the title pastedown written what appears to be a long-hand cursive done in actual pen-and-ink although these too are printed. 17 of the illustrations are of women often girls and there is a dreamy quality to all of them. The three other illustrations are of flowers. Sunning of spine. A few minor paper chips of the decorative paper pastedown both on the binding proper and a bit more so on the slipcase which features the same undulating striped pattern. Interior is clean and bright.

Chez Paul Rosenberg hardcover books

Bulletin Trimestriel de la Socit Archologique de Touraine. T. XXXIV - anne 1966.
Tours France: Socit Archologique de Touraine 1967. Soft cover. As New. Collection of essays published in French every three years of scholarly contributions to Archeology in the Valley of the Loire especially Indre Indre-et-loire Loire-et-Cher and other regions near the city of Tours. The "tomes" are numbered sequentially whether published every year or every three years. The title became an annual around the year 2000 when color graphics were introduced and the word "trimestriel" was dropped. Every issue has several BW illustrations full page plates blueprints maps. All of my exemplars were bought new from the source many still sealed in plastic for newer ones and older ones have uncut pages. This 1966 tome 34 has uncut pages on the top and is also unevenly cut along bottom edge as issued by printer paginated from 273 to 480 containing 11 articles. Unfortunately the 1964 1965 and 1966 issues were all three numbered tome 34.

Socit Archologique de Touraine paperback
