Sigmar Polke. Mu Nieltnam Netorruprup
During the 1970s Sigmar Polke travelled extensively, concentrating heavily on photography as a medium. Both in painting and printing his work often has an experimental flavour. This book is half catalogue with a list of 31 prints and half artist’s book which in the second part shows a series of 101 printed photos about dog/bear fights, men from the Far East gathering and smoking in contrast to photos of Hell’s Angels, police and rich people in the West. This chapter called Mu nieltnam netorruprup is equal to the title of print number 31 in the list of works in the first part of the book. — Testi: Jensen Jens Christian. Armleder John
John M. Armleder. At Any Speed
John M. Armleder became internationally famous in the mid-1980s with the Neo-Geo movement. By that time he could already look back on 20 years of artistic achievement as the initiator of Ecart, as a constructivist-inspired graphic artist and as the organizer of art events. Armleder questions the relationship between pictures and things, and his presentations are subtly sensitive and formally exciting works in contemporary art. This text documents an exhibition which shows a selection of his work between 1970 and 1999. — Testi: Brehm Margrit, Cherix Christophe et al. F.to: 23,5x31; pagg. 210; COL e BN; rileg. rigida. Sensation. Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection
This volume brings together work which has startled the art world. As a collector and patron of young British artists, Charles Saatchi has been a committed supporter of British art as it is being produced. This support has extended beyond artists of renowned notoriety, such as Rachel Whiteread and Damien Hirst, to others at the cutting edge of art. Published to coincide with an exhibition at the Royal Academy in the autumn of 1997, this volume features work by more than 40 controversial or radical artists working in Britain. The book's essays introduce the critical context of the work and document the phenomenon of the British art scene of the 1990s. There are contributions from Norman Rosenthal, Exhibitions Secretary at the Royal Academy of Arts, the historian Lisa Jardine, critics Richard Shone and Brooks Adams, and painter and critic Martin Maloney. The essays reveal the achievements of young artists in Britain and the role played by innovative patronage. — Testi: Adams Brooks, Shone Richard et al. F.to: 24x30; pagg. 222; 104 ill. Explosion: Painting as Action
In the years following the Second World War, artists across the world began to attack the most basic premises of painting, in ways that were both aggressive and playful. The creative act itself was deemed as important as the painting that resulted from it, creating an energetic interzone between painting and performance in which chance procedures, the movement of bodies and the participation of spectators were all recruited as tools. Explosion! Painting as Action explores the connections and cross fertilizations between painting, performance and conceptual art from the late 1940s to the present. Examining painting, photography, video, performance, dance and sound art, this volume includes works by Lynda Benglis, Niki de Saint Phalle, Cai Guo-Qiang, the Gutai Group, Allan Kaprow, Yves Klein, Alison Knowles, Ana Mendieta, Rivane Neuenschwander, Yoko Ono, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Carolee Schneemann, Shozo Shimamoto, Lawrence Weiner and many others. — Testi: Robinson Julia, Tiampo Ming. pagg. 240; rileg. brossura. Alys Francis
Francis Alys - Don't Cross The Bridge Before You Get To The River
Belgian artist Francis Alÿs employs a broad range of media, from painting to performance, and his diverse body of work often explores urbanity and spatial objectivity through investigations of the tension between poetics and politics, individual action and impotence. Operating within the interdisciplinary space of art, architecture, and social practice, his idealistic and symbolic actions accentuate political challenges and anxieties. Central to this catalogue for a solo exhibition of work by Alÿs at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo are his actions at Key West (USA) and Havana, and at the Strait of Gibraltar. Included are essays by curators Yuki Kamiya and Kazuhiko Yoshizaki. — pagg. 122; COL e BN; rileg. brossura. Editore: Seigensha Art Publishing, Kyoto, 2013.
