This catalogue includes a remarkable range of early 20th-Century medical equipment ranging from microscopes fitted with new electric arc lamp to electric centrifuges for testing hypodermic syringes antitoxine syringes anaesthetic equipment electrical illuminating apparatus electro-therapeutic wall cabins X-Ray machines portable radiographic Scheidel cases and much more. The McDermott Surgical Instrument Co. Ltd. was owned and directed by T.C. Hills 1867-1930 and Edwin J. Sack initially on Charles Street specializing in surgical instruments artificial limbs trusses medical equipment and more. Founded originally at the end of the 19th-Century and specializing in artificial limbs and trusses by 1910 the company had substantially expanded and moved to 736-738 Poydras St. expanding their offerings and their reach. Pictorial khaki-coloured softcovers yapp edges embossed & raised illustration of pipe organ on front cover w/ pipes printed in silver lettering in dark brown w/ Art Deco decorative elements sewn at gutter margin w/ gold silk braid w/ ownership label on inner front cover for I.C. Jansen. First edition of this scarce and beautiful catalogue illustrating the historic pipe organs restored by the famed Dutch organ building firm as well as the electrical keyboard installed by the company to upgrade their performance. These include such organs as those in the Reformed Churches in Elburg Zevenbergen Lisse Stellendam Bennebroek Huizen and others. Dekker 1869-1918 built the company into a substantial factory in Goes Netherlands and was known for producing the two-manual and pedal Sonora organs. In addition about the the time this catalogue was produced the Dekker firm had just purchased the famed Van Dam Pipe Organ firm which was known for its instruments installed across the Netherlands during the 18th and 19th centuries. Electric Organestra: the new all British cinema organ.
Leyton UK: R. Spurden Rutt 7 Co. ca. 1928. Oblong 4to. 16 pp. Photo illustrations throughout. Black printed softcovers gilt decorative lettering on front cover yapp edges NF. First edition of this unusually scarce catalogue marketing the several models of Spurden-Rutt’s electric Organestra pipe organ intending to compete with Compton Wurlitzer & Christie organs. The Palace Cinema Slough Theatre in Buckinghamshire and Super Cinema in Oxford had ordered models by the time this was issued and they provided an exceptional accompaniment to the silent movies playing at the time. Spurden-Rutt 1881-1960 apprenticed with Alfred Kirkland of Holloway opened his business in 1899 at the age of 18 and lived in his factory with his living room doubling as a board room. In order to impress clients and visitors with how many staff he would have them run around removing and changing coats appearing in assorted different rooms. He continued as an organ builder until 1959.
