Kyle's fellow underdogs who compete together to win the state championship are a diverse and engaging crew: nerdy dictionary-quoting Jay Justice; brash macho Peachy Waterman; mercurial Buster Nelson; and "jock supreme-o" L.K. Taylor. Hollingsworth's golf writing is folksy incisive and funny but he is less consistent in his descriptions of teenage social life. The major subplot is a clunky romantic triangle in which Kyle is forced to choose between his gorgeous and precocious girlfriend Amy Valente and an erratic former childhood friend named Gail Perdue who resurfaces and claims that destiny has brought them together. Stronger strands of the story describe Jay's effort to cope with the death of his dad in a plane crash and L.K.'s clashes with his own tyrannical father. There's some stock coming-of-age material and the treacly finale is especially clich d but Hollingsworth's portraits are vivid and affectionate. A solid effort that will please sports fans. Apr. The book you are holding is trying to enlighten the adventure of golf in Anatolia which started approximately 118 years ago. The adventure of golf on this land, which started in 1895, is now continuing with searches for fields for new clubs in pursuit of establishing new touristic areas. We can observe that champion golfers passed through this land even a century ago, not even during the time that the Ottoman Empire was shattered by wars did they give up on this sport and that during the modernizing attempts in 1930s and 1950s golf played a significant role. In addition to this, we proved thrugh research that, the founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal was a member of a golf club and the Prime Minister Adnan Menderes was the chairman of the Istanbul Golf Club for 3 years and it was even stated in the election manifesto of the Adalet Party, which once was the ruling party, that improving golf was among the goals. During the times when democracy in Turkey was cut up by military coups, Izmir and Ankara golf clubs were shut down and lost their fields, yet nobody expected the same thing to happen to Istanbul Golf Club. However, Istanbul Golf Club also joined the group of clubs that lost its fields. The adventure of Turkish golf, which now is a trademark of Belek, still continues to be problematic þn terms of clubs and struggles to spread in Anatolia. Golf, which is not a sport for the elite but the elite of the sports, will become a discipline practiced and enjoyed by the Turkish people in the future.
