New English Original cloth bdg. Folio. (31 x 26 cm). In English and Turkish. 290 p., color and b/w ills. A portion, previously not fully explored, of historical information about Al-Quds/Jerusalem is embodied in the postcards and souvenir objects featuring the city. These items, that were posted or kept by visitors, are assets of cultural heritage and hold anthropological value both for their own sake and for the thoughts and purposes attached to them. "Souvenir of Jerusalem" sheds light on this valuable legacy. The book contains reproductions of postcards, posters, and photographs of various objects that Mr. Murat Kargili had assembled in his personal collection and supplemented with annotations. The book came out in IRCICA s series of studies on al-Quds and Palestine. Earlier IRCICA published albums of historical photographs of al-Quds (Al-Quds/Jerusalem in historical photographs, 2009; Jerusalem in Historical Photographs From Past to Present, 2015) but this is the first publication to focus on postcards and artefacts. The first chapter of the book is reserved to postcards, with annotations on the quarters, structures and scenes of life. The second chapter contains a large variety of printed materials such as posters, trade cards, gravures and maps featuring a fascinating range of subjects and objects. The last chapter is devoted to souvenir objects acquired from Jerusalem. IRCICA is pleased to publish this album which mirrors Al-Quds of the late 19th early 20th centuries. The said album came out in a deluxe edition printed on archival-quality paper. It features more than 150 printed materials such as postcards, maps, engravings, posters, trade cards and pictures of souvenir objects which will take the reader on a journey to Al-Quds; this main sacred city that has seen the longest state rule in its history under Muslims administration.

Shows what looks like a Manchurian Princess in elaborate gowns sitting beside a Chinese man smoking opium large format 14.5 x 10.2 cm. black & white very good verso blank. . b. "N. AN OPIUM DEN SHANGHAI. "Verso shows publisher as Denniston & Sullivan Shanghai no. 2. b.w. shows two Chinese men sharing an opium pipe usual postcard size unused card. . c. "CHINESE OPIUM SMOKERS." Color card shows 5 Chinese men with queue hair style one smokes an opium pipe one other smokes a 'water pipe' a child looks on verso publisher states: "Published by the Turco-Egyptian tobacco store Hong Kong Queens Road Old Post Office Building else blank card unused. . d. Shows 4 Chinese men one with a long queue 3 smoke the opium pipe. Verso is blank but printed: "Authorized by act of Congress of May 19 1898. This could be close to that date. . f. "SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA UNDERGROUND OPIUM DEN CHINATOWN." This is similar to the above but a full-sized card color view. Front also states: "Published & Manif. by the Galloway Lithographing Co. S.F. Cal." Verso is blank unused. . g. "CHINESE OPIUM DEN 614 JACKSON STREET CHINATOWN SAN FRANCISCO THE CAT HAS BECOME ADDICTED TO THE FUMES OF THE DRUG." Color photo with 1905 dated ink message on the front cover also on the front is: " Britton & Rey Lithographers San Francisco 512." Verso is addressee postmark round dated and cancelled one-cent stamped with 1905 postmark. Shows a Chinese man with queue hair style smoking an opium pipe a cat sits on his body being held in place by the man's hand. . h. "OPIUM AND PIPE SMOKERS." Color card shows 6 Chinese with queue hair styles two smoke opium. Verso is with penned message dated 1910 round-dated stamp with half-penny stamp addressed to Jersey a UK island. 41 Unused Black and White Postcards of Scenes and Famous Buildings in Korea under Japanese Rule. our title
Seoul 1930. Near Fine. All are normal sized 9 x 14cm. Mostly consists of postcards from Japanese or Korean makers of Commercial postcards. One batch of 11 is in an envelope titled in English "Many Kinds of Picture Cards & Korean Products Just Fit for Present or Souvenir" and sold by Umiichi & Co. in Keijo Seoul. Another batch are in an envelope with a man wearing spectacles and a small-crowned top hat. leaning over the text. The envelopes may initially have contained more. The rest of the cards are loose. Cards captioned in varying combinations of English Korean and Japanese. Several of the loose cards seem to emphasize the quaint backwardness of Koreans; one features a semi-nude woman with the English caption of "To Chang sic Ones Clothes." <br/><br/> hardcover books

Art Deco hand-painted French Fashion postcards
1919. Painting. Very good condition. A group of 12 hand-painted postcards depicting women's fashion in the 1920s. The 5 artist signatures include "Rucio" "Orcina' and "Susie" with 2 undecipherable. All are in the style of the pochoir fashion magazine "Le Gazette du Bon Ton". On the verso is the standard postcard information for France "Carte Postale. La Correspondance au recto n'est pas acceptee par tous les pays etrangers Se renseigner a la poste" with a split back the address on the right and room for correspondence on the left. Two cards by "Susie" are charming - one woman is dressed in a blue sailor's suit the duffle bag slung over her shoulder with the notation "U.S.A.". In the other the young woman is wearing a short pink and blue striped outfit holding a nest of eggs the suggestive caption saying "Nous aussi nous retrouverons bientot notre cher petit nid!" We will also soon find our own little nest! The outfits are charming. Pencil inscription on some identifying the buyer as 'Mich' an American serviceman perhaps who presented the cards to his lady friend who is as "pretty as" the pictures. The postcards are unused printed on heavy rag card with untrimmed edges. unknown

<p>24 original picture postcards of the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition London. 14 are published by Valentine & Sons Ltd 11 unused 3 postally used in 1908/1908/1932 4 by Davidson Bros' 2 unused 2 postally used in 1908 2 by F. Alexander 1 unused 1 postally used in August 1908 1 by A&G Taylor postally used in August 1908 1 by The Rapid Photo Printing Co Ltd postally used in 1930 and 2 have no publisher credited 1 unused 1 postally used in 1909. All 24 cards are in non-adhesive transparent protective sleeves.</p><p><em>The Franco-British Exhibition was a large public fair held in London between 14 May and 31 October 1908. It was the first in the series of the White City Exhibitions. The exhibition attracted 8 million visitors and celebrated the Entente Cordiale signed in 1904 by the United Kingdom and France. The chief architect of the buildings was John Belcher. </em><em>The Exhibition was held in an area of west London near Shepherd's Bush which is now called White City: the area acquired its name from the exhibition buildings which were all painted white. Trier Germany: Schaar & Dathe 1915. 85 b&w postcards printed by Schaar & Dathe of Trier who were one of the biggest German postcard printers and used During W.W.I the company had 15 presses and employed 150 workers & used letterpress lithograph and collotype processes. Creating postcards during the war was an easy affordable way to spread the news visually about the areas most affected by combat through images of ruins life in the camps and the cleanup efforts of soldiers and civilians. See the collection held by the Library of Virginia. The postcards are numbered & captioned on the verso. Slightly dusty overall very good condition. Schaar & Dathe unknown
