‎...1934, Alexandre Stavisky, l'escroc du siècle, se suicide « d'un coup de revolver qui lui a été tiré à bout portant » (Le Canard Enchainé)... « L'affaire » Stavisky éclabousse toute la classe politique, taxée de corruption... – ...1995, Claude Stavisky accuse : « Mon père a payé pour les autres et j'ai payé aussi... Aujourd'hui, je demande que justice soit faite...» — En 1933, 230 millions de francs – soit 1 milliard de francs de 1995 – sont tirés sur le crédit municipal de Bayonne en échange de bijoux volés ou faux. L'auteur de cette escroquerie du siècle : un certain Alexandre Stavisky, petit juif russe émigré d'Ukraine, devenu en quelques années la coqueluche du tout-Paris. Stavisky, aventurier-dandy de la finance, a su asseoir sa fortune et sa respectabilité sur la corruption de toute la classe politique de son temps. Stavisky, « l'homme aux 32 non-lieux », « l'Arsène Lupin de la IIIe République », distribuait des enveloppes aux ministres, aux députés, aux avocats, aux policiers, aux journalistes. Au moment d'être inculpé, il est « suicidé » parce qu'il en savait trop et qu'il gênait trop de gens. « L'affaire Stavisky » eut plusieurs conséquences : suicide d'un conseiller à la cour d'appel ; chute de deux gouvernements ; émeutes fascistes de février 1934, qui ont failli sonner le glas de la République. — Stavisky. Un nom lourd à porter. Claude Stavisky, le « fils de l'escroc », est marqué au fer rouge. Ce n'est pas facile , d'être le fils d'un homme dont on a sali le nom. « Petit Prince » du Claridge, aux temps de la splendeur de son père, Claude est interné abusivement en clinique psychiatrique, durant plus de treize ans, sur demande de sa mère. A sa libération, il devient prestidigitateur dans les cirques et les cinémas. — "Claude Stavisky (1926-2006), personnage hors du commun, savant dosage d’énigmatisme et de sympathie était une figure du milieu de l’illusionnisme. Pendant de longues années il a été membre de la Fédération Française des Artistes prestidigitateurs (FFAP) et du Cercle Français de l’Illusion Jules Dhôtel. Sa vie durant, il a exercé sa grande passion : la prestidigitation. Les clients des restaurants savaient-ils que l’illusionniste qui se produisait de table en table était le fils d’Alexandre Stavisky, héros d’une célèbre affaire qui provoqua en 1934 des émeutes et fit vaciller la république ? Magicien, Claude Stavisky fera partie de la grande famille du cirque Bauer de 1955 à 1958. Pendant quatre années il présentera sous le pseudonyme de Fougestas, puis Vitiskas, ensuite sous celui de Prince Frankestas et enfin Prince Stavisky, le poste de radio éclipsé, le bonneteau aux liquides, le cadre de Bacchus et une version personnelle du panier indien dans lequel il enfermait sa partenaire, la transperçait d’épées comme une pelote d’épingles et d’où elle ressortait souriante et indemne sous les applaudissements du public."
