Laid down to ivory mounting paper. <br/><br/>Quotation comprising the first five measures of the vocal part from Ganz's song "Sing Birdie Sing" notated on one staff in 6/8 time in A major. Marked "Allegro vivo." With text underlay in English "Sing birdie sing and let thy song be of this earth". <br/><br/>Some light creasing and foxing; minor staining from remnants of adhesive to upper edge not affecting music or signature. Ganz was a noted organist violinist conductor and composer. Born in Mainz he settled permanently in London in 1851. "In 1856 Ganz was an accompanist on Jenny Lind's tour of England and Scotland and for some years thereafter he accompanied many of the leading singers in London. He was also the organist at the German Lutheran church in the Strand. Ganz joined Henry Wylde's New Philharmonic Society as second violinist in 1852. In 1874 he became joint conductor of the society with Wylde and in 1879 on Wylde's resignation continued the concerts alone first under the former name and after 1880 as 'Mr Ganz's Orchestral Concerts'. During his three seasons as conductor Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique and Liszt's Dante Symphony were performed in their entirety for the first time in London and a number of eminent artists including Annette Essipov Sophie Menter Saint-Saëns and Pachmann appeared as soloists." ‎Les éditeurs ont composé ce second tome d’œuvres de Bernard Gardin à partir de ses recherches sur deux grands corpus : les tracts de la grève avec occupation aux usines Renault de Cléon, en 1978, et les comptes rendus de réunion des Groupes d’expression directe mis en place dans les grandes entreprises par la loi Auroux (1982). Autour de ces études de la parole ouvrière viennent des analyses des productions discursives des leaders politiques et syndicaux dans des contextes tantôt polémiques, tantôt coopératifs d’interlocution, à la recherche du lien entre les formes de la langue et l’idéologie. — "Bernard Gardin est né en 1940, issu d'un milieu populaire. On note le fait parce que toute sa vie la réflexion sur l’appropriation du langage par le peuple fut sa préoccupation constante, on peut sans doute dire principale. Il est mort en 2002. Il a d'abord enseigné dans divers établissements du secondaire, puis à l'Université de Rouen à partir de 1971 jusqu'à sa mort. Deux considérations d'ordre différent ont justifié cette publication. D'une part le rôle qu'il a joué dans la réflexion sur le langage et la façon dont on peut ou doit l'étudier est à nos yeux exceptionnel. D'autre part, ses œuvres sont éparses, souvent difficiles à retrouver. B.Gardin a fait partie de ces linguistes qui, dès le début des années soixante-dix, ont fondé un champ en France, celui de la sociolinguistique. L'ouvrage de Marcellesi-Gardin, “Introduction à la sociolinguistique” publié en 1974 chez Larousse fut, on le sait, de toutes les bibliographies. B. Gardin, qui avait une admiration profonde pour la thèse de Louis Guilbert, “La formation du vocabulaire de l'aéronautique”, partageait avec lui cet intérêt pour la vie sociale des mots, pour la néologie, pour l'idéologie qu'ils véhiculent, pour leur circulation et leurs modifications dans les pratiques sociales, leur irruption dans les discours. Il a fortement contribué à construire deux courants qui, au fil des années, ont fini par prendre une autonomie relative : la sociolinguistique et l’analyse de discours. Ce qui lui était important, vital même, c’était de pouvoir utiliser son savoir, ses connaissances de linguiste à des fins de connaissance et de transformation de la société. C’était de pouvoir donner une légitimité à la parole de syndicalistes ou de simples ouvrières : ainsi ses travaux sur les syndicalistes ou son intérêt dans les années 80 pour les Groupes d’Expression Directe (Paroles d’ouvriers et d’ouvrières)..." Garfield took office in March 1881 was shot in July and died a lingering death in September. Mrs. Garfield thanks Mr. Blaine for his wonderful words and his tribute to her husband's life and character. A beautiful poignant letter. Still very good.
