First edition.<br />This monograph is intended primarily to describe the aboriginal and time-of-contact life-ways of the Kaska Indians of Northern British Columbia and southern Yukon Territory Canada. Honigmann's principal object has been to add to present knowledge concerning the Northern Athapaskan Indians. As far as the organization of the material is concerned the cultural data follow the introduction which includes a description of the environment tribal distribution and nomenclature population data a sketch of psychological types and an index of principal informants. The description of aboriginal Kaska culture is divided into five main sections covering respectively data pertaining to the food quest camp life and some associated activities social organization ideological system and the life cycle. These main divisions are in turn further broken down. For many of the dress patterns implements and behaviors alternatives are indicated. Information has been obtained primarily from the Upper Liard and Dease River Kaska.<br />Condition:<br />Corners bumped spine and edges sunned. A very good copy. Yale University Press paperback

For Ernest and Marguerite Gamy-Montaut 1914 1st Edition 1914. -----------poster approximately 36w x 18h inches with the image being about 27w x 13h inches produced in 1914 using the pochoir method of printing lithographed and then hand coloured by various house artists resulting in slight colour variations from poster to poster handcoloured in watercolour and gouache this has been mounted on a heavy card board which has kept the poster from being creased Ernest Montaut died in 1909 but the studio continued to produce images afterward under the direction of Marguerite in most cases Marguerite would include her signature in the image using the name M Montaut or GAMY but some posters were issued without her moniker this image does not have that printed signature but this is unmistakably from the Montaut studio this "keyhole" layout was used by the studio for many images often speeding automobiles but generally the studio seemed to prefer the idea of technology to convey the ideas of power and speed and technology ---this image is quite striking depicting old and new technology in the very foreground is a hulking looming battleship with its spotlight illuminating a silent almost ghostly zeppelin in the dark night sky behind the battle ship is another hulk of a ship to the left of the dirigible is a 3-masted sailing ship surrounded by small rowboats and skiffs in the very foreground is a rowboat with a silhouetted man with arms outstretched in awe of the silent zeppelin in the very distance is a town/city with buildings and domes and clock towers in silhouette --- it would seem to make sense that this was issued just around the time WWI started ---overall the image is in very good condition with some light rub marks some edge wear and short tears to the edges but those could be framed out quite easily framed this would make a stunning addition to any library of militaria ---overseas shipping will require additional postage--if an issue please inquire before ordering any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo.///NOT SIGNED ---GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE//////. Consisting of: 'The Book Of Common Prayer.'; 'The Holy Bible.' with maps; 'Alphabetical Index Of The Holy Scriptures.'; and ' A New Version Of The Psalms Of David.' 18pp./pp.148/12pp./pp.586/2pp./pp.188/pp.40/pp.75/3pp. . Polished black calf corners rubbed and bumped. Spine with 4 raised bands and gilt titles: "Holy Bible - Common Prayer". Marbled Endpapers. Neat dedication to front endpaper: "Evelyn Pulcherie Chapman from her Godmother A. M. C. August 2nd. 1863." The silver clasps are hallmarked for London 1863 the maker is Henry and Henry John Lias. Edward John Granet was born in August 1858 in Italy. He was educated at Eton and joined the Royal Artillery CDA 11th Division in 1878. He married Evelyn Pulcherie Chapman 1864-1933 and they had one child: Guy Edward Augustus Granet born in Ipswich 1887-1953. Guy had a distinguished military career receiving both the MC and DSO. His father; E. J. Granet saw service in Afghanistan Egypt and South Africa he then became a Military Attache serving in Stockholm Rome and Berne from 1911 until 1915. While in Gallipoli 1915 he was injured by shell splinters at Suvla Bay. He retired to Berne Switzerland for his convalescence and was promoted to Brigadier General 1915. However he died from his injuries 3 years later on 22nd October 1918 and was buried at Vevey St. Martin's Cemetery . He was awarded the Companion of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath CB. and was a member of Ubique Lodge No. 1789 the Masonic lodge of "the gunners" a military lodge of the province of London. Evelyn Pulcherie Chapman was born 1864 in Sunningdale Berkshire. She married Edward John Granet in 1885. Her Godmother was Adeline Mary Chapman 1847-1931. The Northwest Coast was the name given by 18th-century navigators and traders to the great arc of Pacific coast and offshore islands stretching from present-day northern California to an ill-defined point along the Alaska coast - at Prince William Sound or even Cook Inlet. Modern anthropologists identify the native culture of the NW Coast as that within rough limits between Yakutat Bay southeastern Alaska and Trinidad Bay or Cape Mendocino Calif. Along this narrow coastal belt the Indians developed high levels of civilization based upon the sea's plentiful resources. Warmed by the North Pacific Current and deluged along most of its length by heavy annual precipitation the NW Coast produces dense coniferous forests and abundant vegetation.
