Bon exemplaire.‎ ‎L'ouvrage est formé d'un recueil d'amateur des livraisons du Spectateur militaire, où Jules Baissac (1827-1898) a donné pour la première fois sa traduction des prétendus souvenirs de Ferdinand Pflug. A noter que ce texte fit ensuite l'objet d'une édition sous forme de livre qui parut chez Charles Tanera en 1862, mais est fort difficile à trouver.Le problème de ce texte est qu'on n'arrive pas à identifier un original allemand : Ferdinand Pflug (1823-1888) a bien existé, mais, s'il a publié en 1864 un ouvrage estimé sur la Guerre des Duchés, sa bibliographie ne semble pas contenir de Mémoires sur la Guerre de Crimée. ‎PHILIPPON (Amiral, dit Hilarion).‎ ‎La Royale et le roi.‎ ‎France-Empire, 1982, gr. in-8°, 396 pp, 16 pl. de photos hors texte, documents en annexes, broché, couv. illustrée, bon état‎ ‎"L'amiral Philippon est mort sans avoir achevé ses mémoires. Nous devons donc nous contenter de ce premier volume qui couvre la période 1945-1964, avec quelques excursions au-delà. On le regrette d'autant plus que ce grand marin était aussi un écrivain de talent, que l'on suit avec un égal plaisir dans ses commandements à la mer et dans les cabinets ministériels. Ses conclusions sont que la IVe République a eu des ministres avisés qui ont relevé la marine, alors que la Ve l'a laissée péricliter (de 1962 à 1967, seule l'Aconit a été mise sur cale pour remplacer une flotille d'escorteurs vieillissants). Sa position à l'égard du général de Gaulle est ambivalente : plein d'admiration pour le résistant et l'homme d'Etat, il s'agace de son incompréhension totale des problèmes spécifiques de la marine. Il est dommage que l'ouvrage s'arrête juste au moment de la nomination de l'auteur à la tête de l'état-major particulier de la présidence. On aurait beaucoup appris. Cet excellent livre incite à relire d'autres souvenirs..." (Hervé Coutau-Bégarie, Politique étrangère, 1983) — En 1942, Philippon est officier torpilleur à Toulon quand la flotte se saborde, il est ensuite placé en congé d’armistice. Il réintègre l’état major de la marine en septembre 1944. Capitaine de corvette en août 1945, il prend le commandement de l’aviso l’Annamite, avec lequel il prend part aux opérations dans le Mékong. Nommé à la direction du personnel militaire de la marine en décembre 1946, il est ensuite chef adjoint du cabinet du ministre en août 1947 date à laquelle il est promu capitaine de frégate, où il travaille aux plans de reconstruction de la flotte française. En 1949 il commande l’aviso Francis Garnier dans l’océan indien et le Pacifique, devient chef du groupement d’action sous-marine sur le Gustave Zédé. Il est promu capitaine de vaisseau an 1952 et nommé directeur du personnel adjoint de la marine, il commande ensuite le porte avions Arromanches avec lequel il participera aux opérations de Suez en 1956. Auditeur au Centre des hautes études militaires en janvier 1958, il est ensuite attaché en juin à l’état major du ministre de la défense, il démissionne en janvier 1959, suite à la baisse des crédits pour les constructions nouvelles. Rappelé au service actif en avril 1959 à la demande expresse du général de Gaulle, il est affecté à l’état major particulier du chef de l’Etat. Contre-amiral, il est nommé major général du port de Sidi Abdallah en janvier 1960, en mai de l’année suivante il commande le groupe des portes avions et de l’aviation embarquée, en octobre 1961 il est sous-chef d’état major général et est promu vice -amiral en juillet 1963. Il est chef d’état major particulier du président de la République en mai 1964, à ce poste il jouera un rôle décisif dans la construction des sous-marins nucléaires lanceurs d’engins et la politique de dissuasion. Il est promu vice amiral d’escadre en novembre 1965, en août 1967 il commande l’escadre de la méditerranée sur le croiseur Colbert.
