Cussons John A Confederate Soldier
UNITED STATES HISTORY AS THE YANKEE MAKES AND TAKES IT with 8-Page Prospectus
Glen Allen VA: Cussons May & Co 1900. Hard Cover. 12mo. 99 pp. Third Edition. Rebound in black imitation leather with title stamped on the spine; wrappers bound in; at the time of binding there appears to have been some subtle paper repair largley to the inner margin of the first dozen leaves--discreet; front wrapper has been subjected to some aggressive erasing resulting in a faded spot; private library stamp on the title page; top corners of the title and dedication page are chipped; contents are otherwise clean; a tasteful rebinding. Originally issued in 1898 a collection titled Glance at Current History where it was reprinted once but this third edition is the first edition separately printed. Largely a response to Goldwin Smith's History of the United States Cussons takes a firm stance that the full measure of America's greatness could be achieved only beneath a single flag while being equally firm in the conviction that a true spirit of national unity will never be attained by a distortion of historic truths. Nevins II p. 9 first edition. Davis, James R.
The Sharp End : A Canadian Soldier's Story
270 pages. Through James Davis's eyes we see the real face of Canada's army: efficient, technologically advanced - sometimes brutal. The uncompromising opinions Davis has about the strengths and weaknesses of our present-day military are backed up by his own first-hand experience at "the sharp end" as a front-line soldier. Will interest not just military buffs but also those who want to understand the life-and-death pressures facing Canada's soldiers at home and abroad. "If Canadians really want to know what our soldiers faced in Bosnia, Rwanda and right here in Caada, Jim Davis delivers. Read him and think." - Desmond Morton. Book and dust jacket clean, bright and unmarked with very light wear. Excellent copy. Book
