Noto studio storico-critico di Respighi in cui l'A. dimostrava, sulla base di documenti inediti, che la famosa edizione medicea, base dei libri corali di canto gregoriano, non era attribuibile a Palestrina, come aveva indicato F. X. Haberl. Dalla polemica che ne derivo', si crearono sostenitori dei ratisbonesi e quelli delle melodie solesmensi.
