‎Lyon, Barthelemi Vincent, 1596. 3 parties en 1 vol. petit in-8 de 80-(16)-160 pp., 16 ff., maroquin havane, dos titré à nerfs, armes dorées au centre des plats et super-libris en pied, roulette dorée sur les chasses et double filet doré sur les coupes, signet de soie verte, tranches dorées (Niédrée).‎

‎Édition originale posthume du premier titre qui donne son nom au recueil : le Discours des parties et office d'un bon et entier juge fut composé vers 1560 mais imprimé en 1596 à Lyon par Barthélémi Vincent qui le joignit à trois autres pièces de Jean de Coras ici en nouvelle édition, sur l'histoire prodigieuse de Martin Guerre, les mariages clandestins et la traduction des douze règles de Pic de la Mirandole. Chaque partie est précédée de sa propre page de titre qui porte la marque de l'imprimeur. « Si dans la mémoire commune, Jean de Coras (1512-1572) fut avant tout le juge et le chroniqueur de la célèbre cause de Martin Guerre et une des victimes sacrificielles de la Saint-Barthélemy toulousaine, diverses études ont souligné l'intérêt de ses oeuvres qui font de lui une figure marquante de l'humanisme juridique. (…) Il est un des premiers à s'essayer à un genre nouveau : le commentaire en français de la législation royale, avec Des mariages clandestins (1557), plaidoyer en faveur de l'édit de février 1556 où Coras adopte contre l'Église des positions qui sont depuis Erasme, celles des Réformés sur les mariages qui ne sont pas sacramentels. (…) La relation de l' « histoire prodigieuse » d'Arnaud du Thil, le faux Martin Guerre, qui est la trace la plus connue de son activité de magistrat, fut un étonnant succès de librairie mais n'a pas donné matière à une quelconque systématisation juridique. (…) Coras peut faire figure de pionnier de la pensée politique sur deux questions appelées à faire l'objet de débats importants. À une époque où s'installait la vénalité des offices, il écrivit un livre sur les qualités et les devoirs des magistrats : son Discours des parties et office tout empreint d'éthique calviniste tend à promouvoir l'idée selon laquelle le Parlement est le « Sénat de France » et partage avec le roi la même magistrature d'essence divine traduction des douze règles de Pic de la Mirandole. » (Poumarède, Dictionnaire historique des juristes français, p. 203).Provenance : baron Grandjean d’Alteville avec armes et super-libris (ex-libris G au titre, ne figure pas au catalogue de 1862) ; baron Louis Pasquier, ex-libris, (cat. 1874, n° 115).Très bel exemplaire relié par Niédrée.
