<ol><li>General Historical Context<br />King ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl Saʿūd's visit to Egypt in 1946 took place at a critical moment in Middle Eastern history immediately following the end of the Second World War amid the reconfiguration of the international order and the beginning of the decline of British colonial influence in the region. At that time Egypt was a pivotal actor in Arab politics while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had firmly established itself as a central state with growing religious and political influence.</li><li>Political and Diplomatic Dimensions of the Visit<br />The document reveals the highly official and symbolic nature of the visit reflecting:<br />Mutual recognition of the leading status of both states in the Arab world.<br />A clear desire to coordinate political positions at a stage preceding the escalation of major Arab issues foremost among them the Palestinian question which was approaching a decisive turning point.<br />Support for the course of joint Arab action which had been crowned by the establishment of the League of Arab States in 1945 followed by efforts to consolidate Arab solidarity.<br />The programme further demonstrates meticulous protocol intended to project Arab unity in the face of international powers.</li><li>The Symbolic Significance of King ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz<br />The visit represents the peak of King ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz's external diplomatic presence. The Israeli invasion in Lebanon in 1978 had serious consequences for peace and security in the Middle East. The Lebanon case in which UN was dragged untimely and unprepared in the direction of American interests in the Middle East in 1978 has been going on for 40 years. Despite all well-intentioned initiatives of the international community, the operation could not achieve the mandated tasks given by the Security Council yet. UNIFIL has been stuck to its area of operation, because the problems between Israel and Lebanon cannot be solved independently from conflicts in the Middle East. The distinctive characteristic of the Lebanon case has been the duration of the operation that spanned the Cold War and post-Cold War periods. Hence, the changes in the security environment, new challenges, and emergence of the second generation of PKOs can be understood more clearly. By having exposed the problems throughout the UNIFIL operation, the book is expected to benefit researchers, scholars, and decision-makers at the UN headquarters in setting up a framework to deal with possible challenges for the future PKOs.

In-8, plein vélin rigide à petits rabats (rel. vers 1650), pièce de titre de maroquin bordeaux, tranches vert bronze, (1) f., (26) p., (2) f. blancs, 314 p. Précoce édition, publiée à Venise par Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari en 1548, qui manque à l'ensemble des bibliothèques en ligne: BnF et au CCFr, à KVC, à WorldCat. Un unique exemplaire recensé: réunion des Bibliothèques italiennes (ICCU). Mû par un sentiment pro-français et dirigé contre Rome, l’auteur prophétise dans une perspective millénariste, l’avènement d’une ère de paix internationale (‘Monarchia del mondo’), de pacification des querelles intestines et de tolérance religieuse universelle. Bayle a commenté cet ouvrage dans son dictionnaire (art. 'Xénophane', 4:518), à propos de la partialité des historiens : "J’ai lu un livre italien qui a pour titre ‘Monarchia del nostro signor Giesu Christo’ (…). L’auteur y donne l’histoire des combats de Lucifer contre Jésus-Christ…". L’ouvrage fut mis à l'index. Cf. 'Profezia e censura nell'Italia di fine Cinquecento. G. A.
