Comprendere tuttavia il valore di punto di riferimento generale che ha avuto la vicenda cilena, la sua capacità di aprire inaspettate prospettive di avanzata rivoluzionaria, senza cedere alla tentazione di analogie del tutto nominali è possibile soltanto se si procede preliminarmente a un accertamento accurato delle particolarità del laboratorio cileno, della materialità dei processi che vi si sono svolti. Caratteristica di questo volume è appunto quella di ricostruire con eccezionale ricchezza analitica le condizioni oggettive di un processo rivoluzionario, la situazione di partenza di capitalismo dipendente e la crisi endemica da esso inflitta al paese, l'iniziativa di politica economica del governo Allende e i suoi contraccolpi nell'economia non meno che nei rapporti sociali - collocandole al tempo stesso in un quadro teorico (quello della transizione dal capitalismo al socialismo) che ne stabilisce immediatamente il rapporto, e quindi il significato, rispetto alle questioni fondamentali della fase attuale dello scontro di classe mondiale. Sergio Ramos, laureato in chimica ed economia all'Università del Cile, Santiago, vi ha poi insegnato come docente di economia Membro del Partito comunista cileno, è consulente del ministero dell'Economia nel governo Allende. Questo lavoro ha vinto il premio Casa de las Americas 1972. Attualmente Ramos vive e insegna in Francia.
