Spine of otherwise-lovely binding is quite sunned; tight and internally near fine with occasional touch of foxing. Handsome copy of this in-depth collection of daily proceedings of this institution opening with May 6 and closing with July 11. For anyone wanting to study the speeches resolutions motions acts anything and everything that comes before this legislative branch the Senate proceedings are as in-the-weeds as they come. This special copy bears a fine presentation inscription in brown ink on the front flyleaf from Connecticut's lieutenant governor to his eldest son: "Arthur H. Averill / Danbury Nov 24 AD 1863 / With the affection of / Roger Averill." Roger Averill 1809-83 was a notable Connecticut attorney and politician and served as that state's Civil War lieutenant governor from 1862 to 1865 under Governor William B. Buckingham. Arthur H. Averill 1845-94 was the eldest of his six children an attorney who served the city of Danbury. There is a great deal of Civil War content of every sort major and minor buried in these pages. After page 358 the journal switches to "The Executive Journal of the Senate of the State of Connecticut" with second title page opening with mention of "His Honor Roger Averill President." Since Connecticut's lieutenant governor also serves as President of the Senate Averill identified simply as "The President" appears frequently throughout this volume. Stevenson III 1930-2021 U.S. Senator from Illinois 1969-81 who at this time chaired the Senate Ethics Committee which in 1979 officially censured Georgia senator Herman E. See photos for condition details: staple bound government publication regarding the war claims and compensation of certain states. On the front cover is written "Complements of Captain Mullan". Captain John Mullan was involved for many years in the California Civil War claims as well as his own officer compensation. This government report was found amongst the collection from the Quackenbush family which was acquired in the 1970s. The book itself is a simple staple bound government publication. The front cover shows a lot of scuffing and soiling as does the rear to a lesser degree. The staples do show rust spots and the first page has small tears by the stapling as well as the check and a tear on the long edge. The remaining pages are toned with some spotting and edge wear but no other handwriting was found in the book. An extremely rare example of a slice of American history. <br/> <br/> Government Printing Office paperback

Washington D.C.: n.p. 1844. First edition. Removed. A very good copy. 1 pp. 8vo. The Maine resolution was an attack on the heinous process of re-enslaving freed blacks: "Resolved. That we do most solemnly in behalf of the people of this State protest against the existence of any laws in any of the States of Territories of this Union which subject our free colored citizens to the liability to be arrested and imprisoned and to be sold into slavery for the payment of the costs of such arrest and imprisonment; that we do protest against such laws as unconstitutional and as endangering the Union." Maine approved this on March 22 1843 sent a copy to all members of the House and Senate and to all the governors of States and Territories. OCLC locates no copies. Smith a veteran of the Confederate army and a prominent Athenian jurist is remembered for advancing further than any other Confederate soldier during Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg. On April 20 1959 the Senate established the Select Committee on National Water Resources authorizing it to study water resources activities in the United States . The committee solicited the States for their views on water resources issues holding extensive hearings throughout the country from Montana to Florida and from Maine to California. Included is the final Report of the Committee from the hearing January 30 1961 and most transcripts from the hearings which were published in separate parts by location in 1960 lacking Part 7 and Part 23. The Report is 147 pages; the additional parts comprise over 3000 pages with a number of maps charts fold-outs etc. Stapled self-wraps. Uncommon.; 5-3/4" x 9"; First page of each document has ownership stamps or marks staples are rusted a few creased corners and a few first pages soiled along the edge. The Committee on Territories to whom was referred the resolution of the Senate of the 16th of Januaryin regard to the suppression of the publication of the message of the governor of the Territory of Utah have had the same under consideration and beg leave to report: On the 16th of January the Senate of the United States adopted the following resolution: Resolved That the Committee on Territories be instructed to inquire and report whether the publication of the message of the governor of the Territory of Utah to the territorial legislature has been suppresses and if so by what causes and what was the message
