Lake Shastina Sales Map Tract No. 1000-7-2
Undated likely mid-1970s. 34 x 25-inch map showing hundreds of small lots for sale in this subdivision in Weed near Mount Shasta in Siskyou County. Folding creases one split along a fold a few minor notations; very good. Development at Lake Shastina began in 1968 and focused on enticing well-heeled city dwellers in the Bay Area and Los Angeles to purchase lots for investment second homes or retirement. Lots were initially offered at $5000 and the developer Golden West Associates offered free rountrip flights for potential buyers to see the proprety. In a 2009 interview upon his retirement the long-time general manager of the development recalled "We couldn't sub-divide fast enough to keep up with sales. In the early '70s lots were selling for $17000 to $25000. The sales people could sell $2 million a weekend in real estate." Today the community is home to about 2700 people but some of the lots shown on this ambitious sales map remain empty. unknown

Late 1950s Photo Archive Documenting the Work of the National Steel & Shipbuilding Corporation
Very good. Collection of 23 professional 8" x 10" photographs showing the ships facilities and construction processes of the National Steel & Shipbuilding Corporation NASSCO in the later 1950s and/or early 1960s. The company traces its roots to 1905 with the founding of the San Diego-based California Iron Company. During World War II they built cargo barges and industrial gas cooking ranges for the military. After the war as San Diego's maritime industry flourished NASSCO began producing small fishing vessels and in the late 1950s they were contracted to build several large cargo ships. The images in this collection date from that period and show large vessels under construction men at work some of the company's fishing vessels in the harbor and the newly completed "Lt. Col. John U.D. Page" a "beach discharge Lighter built to transfer vehicles and stores from sea going ships to the beachhead" that was completed in 1957 WorldNavalShips website. There is also an aerial view of the harbor area. Together they offer excellent documentation of the company's work during this period. NASSCO remains in business today operating as General Dynamics NASSCO. All photographs are in very good or better condition; several have a NASSCO ink stamp on the verso. . unknown

Jonathan Bayard Smith 1742-1812 Philadelphia merchant and member of the Continental Congress in 1777-1778 was prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas for the city and county of Philadelphia from 1777 to 1788 and a justice of that court from 1778 to 1788. Beginning with 1792 he served two years as alderman of Philadelphia and in the latter year was auditor general of Pennsylvania under Gov. Thomas Mifflin. In Good Condition: leather is rubbed with loss at ends of spine and corners; joints are cracked; old dampstain in lower part of pages 189-240; occasional foxing heavier on a few pages; occasional ink notations; otherwise clean and solid. Lincoln Centennial Association Addresses Delivered at the Annual Banquet Held at Springfield Illinois February Eleven Nineteen Hundred and Eleven Commemorating the One Hundred and Second Anniversary of the Birth of Abraham Lincoln
Springfield: The Lincoln Centennial Association 1911. Hardcover. Small 4to. Limp brown suede. 40pp xv. Frontispiece 7 full-page sepia-tone portraits. Very good. Faint edgewear only to yapped edges else internally near fine. Large "Lincoln Centennial Association" themed bookplate on front flyleaf not filled in. Program of the third annual banquet of this association printed by the Roycrofters. Reverend Thomas D. Logan introduces J. Otis Humphrey and other speakers -- including President William Howard Taft. A quite nice copy of a delicate booklet whose binding often deteriorates badly. Not the usual garnet or burgundy color seen this copy also features more than the usual four sepia-tone portraits. Springfield IL: Illinois Historical Society ca. 1912-1936. Hardcover. Very Good. Very good to good in red cloth spines and green cloth boards. Gilt detail and lettering on spine and front covers. "Histosical" - misspelling on cover of v. 3. V. 3 is shorter and has a darker green coth on boards. All volumes show wear to edges and corners with scuffing to covers. Some soiling to spines. 2 p. have a small chip missing from top edge in v. 1. Hinge starting at front and read endpapers on vol. 3. A collection of articles about Lincoln removed from issues of the Journal by a collectror who had them bound uniquely and securely but a bit roughly. Bindings are solid on all vols except where noted on v. 3. A great number of topics about or related to Lincoln are included. Springfield: Illinois State Journal Company 1911. Hardcover. Small 4to. Burgundy cloth clamshell case with gilt spine lettering housing 23 large foldout maps as issued. Floral pastedowns. Very good. Case slightly edgeworn and a bit rubbed with mild cracking along outer edges though expert archival inner lining maintains case shape and integrity; maps very good to near fine with no separations evident. First edition of this scarce accompaniment to the "Report Upon the Prevention of Overflow of the Little Wabash and Skillet Fork Rivers" a 40pp study authored by W.J. McEathron Leroy Lemayne Hidinger and others in 1911. The Little Wabash River is a 240-mile-long tributary of the Wabash River in southern Illinois and Skillet Fork a 98-mile-long tributary of the Little Wabash. Together they are part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. Lacks the 40-page clothbound report but a superb and complete detailed map grouping. [Illinois State Journal Company] hardcover

An apparently unrecorded original railroad map dated Feb. 1872 showing the city of Vincennes Indiana. 19' h x 37" w on translucent vellum architectural paper scale 1" = 400 feet. Very Good number 920-4 in marker bottom right corner bottom right corner clipped not affecting any details of the map bottom left corner with 2 small holes punched faint creasing and light soiling. Drawn in black with cross marks in red and the tracks of the C & V RR in blue. Details include locations of depots mills foundries and warehouses along the Wabash River Catholic Church cemetery and property street names and location of a seminary. Additionally showing are the lines of the Evansville & Crawfordsville RR Indianapolis & Vincennes RR and the Ohio & Mississippi RR. Founded in 1732 by the French Vincennes county seat of Knox County is the oldest continually inhabited European settlement in Indiana and was the first capitol of the Indiana Territory. Its population in 1870 was 5440. The Cairo & Vincennes Railroad was chartered in Illinois in 1867 by Civil War General Green B. Raum. The railroad began laying track in 1870 and was fully completed in 1874. Established to move coal from the Illinois mines one of its first Presidents was the Civil War General Ambrose Burnside. It was reorganized as the C & V Railway not railroad in 1880 confirming the date this map was drawn.
