Bellemare, Eugene
Meet Your MPs: 1993-1997
Unpaginated. Book is over one inch thick. "The caricatures of my colleagues of the 35th Parliament (of Canada) are dedicated to their sense of humour. If I have captured a feeling, a mood, or a particular look, I thank my models for having inspired me." - Artist. *Hilarious* caricatures of many Canadian Members of Parliament who sat from 1993-1997 by one of their own. Book is clean, bright and unmarked with negligible wear. Lovely copy. After viewing these wonderfully detailed and creative images it is hard not to wonder what the artist actually spent most of his time doing while in Ottawa! Will delight fans and families of the MPs represented herein! Our favourite image is that of North Vancouver Reform Party M.P. Ted White. Book

Bill for Removing the Civil Disabilities of the Jews, 1834 [ British Parliament; House of Lords ]:
Bill for Removing the Civil Disabilities of the Jews 1834. Contemporary manuscript transcript of the conclusion of the debate on the motion for the second reading of the bill.
1834. . 21pp. 4to. On six loose bifoliums. In good condition lightly aged and worn. Incomplete: paginated 23 to 32 the last a mistake for 33. The manuscript reproduces exactly with omissions the text on pp.79-94 of the publication 'Debates in the House of Commons on a Resolution Preparatory to the Introduction and in the House of Lords on the Motion for the Second Reading of the Bill for Removing the Civil Disabilities of the Jews … Reprinted from the Mirror of Parliament at the request of the Committee of the Jewish Association for obtaining Civil Rights and Privileges' London: Printed for the Proprietors of “The Mirror of Parliament†3 Abingdon-street Westminster 1934. There are a couple of indications of a foreign origin: first the style of writing with the personal pronoun appearing throughout as a small i and the numbering having a foreign feel; second a the style of printing of a shelfmark 'Va III. - 4.' on a slip of paper on the last leaf. The shelfmark is accompanied by a circular stamp in black ink containing the acronym 'BMPF'. It may be that the manuscript was transcribed from the newspaper in order to provide an interested foreign party with an account of the debate before publication in book form. [ 1834. ] unknown

Borden, Sir Robert Laird.
"CANADA AT WAR" Special Session of the Dominion Parliament August, 1914. Speech by R. Hon. Sir Robert Laird Borden.
30p. 8vo. Original full blue grey printed wraps. Very nice copy. Sir Robert Laird Borden (1854-1937). As prime minister, Borden headed a Conservative government until 1917 and a Union (coalition) government until his resignation in 1920. He is remembered for his leadership in carrying Canada through World War I and, subsequently, in defining the new status of the self-governing dominions in the British Empire. Largely through his efforts the dominions were given separate representation in the League of Nations, and the Canadian Parliament ratified the treaties that resulted from the Versailles peace conference of 1919.
