A double page sheet hand colored very good 15.75 x 21.75 nicely done framable broadside.R A R E This is an excellent representation of the sudden chaos of a fire clearly in an area where foreigners live and shop. Most likely in Yokohama or Tokyo. Several foreigners are caught up in the scene while many Japanese scramble to save what they can others flee for their lives. The Japanese firemen are struggling to put the fire out while Japanese military try to control the crowd. Loaded with action. . unknown

Showing Japanese & foreign men sitting at a western style dinner table with 7 male guests and 6 female Geisha entertaining one plays a Shamisen others pour drinks for the guests. London 1862 I.L.N. Single full sheett very good two 1/2 page woodcut illustrations 28.5 x 40.5 cm. R A R E An excellent early example of Japan. Two half-page woodcut illustrations show the architecture of Japanese buildings. The first view is of Arai it is animated with a wide variety of Japanese moving along the street infront of the Guards. Pilgrims men and women with children ladened horses and a host of others pass infront of the "Go-Yoh" lantern. The second scene shows the vast interior of a Japanese Ryokan inn with palanquin set to he side women bearing trays with tea bowls while others sit on thier knees waiting. Tansu and other utencils in the background with Tatami mat floors. Both are illustrated by "Our Special Artist" meaning the I.L.N.'s special artist who most often was Charles Wirgman. . unknown
