brossura L'opera, arricchita da numerose immagini, si propone di descrivere minuziosamente in un "percorso cronologico" le monete coniate a partire da Vitale II Michiel (1156-1172), il primo a emettere moneta con il nome del doge in carica, fino a Cristoforo Moro (1462-1471), con la cui morte la zecca veneziana chiude il "ciclo medievale". Vengono analizzate le varietà epigrafiche, stilistiche, le sigle e i "segni" derivanti dall'attività di zecca. Un libro, quindi, che nasce con l'intento di essere ausilio al collezionista nella catalogazione e per lo studioso un incentivo per approfondire ricerche, su una delle più importanti monetazioni del periodo.

Orné de 64 gravures: 1 portrait de l'auteur en frontispice, 1 titre-frontispice, 1 vignette sur le titre, 1 tête de chapitre, 22 dans le texte (dont 10 de monnaies avers et revers), 7 grandes vignettes dans le texte (dont 3 de monnaies avers et revers), 14 beaux sujets à pleine page (2 de ceux-ci représentant des monnaies avers et revers), 16 belles planches dont 15 se dépliante plusieurs fois, 1 beau grand plan dépliant de la Rome Antique. Reliure usée avec manques de cuir en tête, au bas du dos, en bordure du mors du 1er plat (ce mors étant fendu), coins usés; petite galerie de vers dans les fonds des pages 37 à 49, puis 679 à 684; rousseurs par endroits. EXEMPLAIRE COLLATIONNE COMPLET dans sa reliure d'époque solide malgré les défauts signalés. Bel ex-libris armorié daté de 1735, appliqué sur le contreplat. Brunet III, 664. Edition plus complète que celles parues en 1661 et 1684. Ouvrage fort bien illustré, proposé ici avec des défauts qui témoignent de sa longévité, ce qui ajoute à son charme de livre trois fois centenaire.
