The present study in your hands aims to present the times of a city at least at the threshold of the modern times, before the unfortunate events of 1919-1922 through engravings, photographs and postcards. The material was collected over a long period of time due to difficulty of procurement and it was necessary to publish them instead of waiting for new material to be discovered. The glass negatives in the collection of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Istanbul make up a unique set of images for Aydin. Materials presented here include those published in Bitek Topraklar Üstünde Aydin and others and they will facilitate a new access for those who would like to explore the visual history of the city. Jeder hatte ein zweigeschossiges Haus, hatte auch draußen ein Anwesen mit Gemusegarten, mit Nussbäumen, Mandel-, Apfel, Birn- und Kirschbäumen. Und er vergaß auch nicht, zu seiner Freude einen Blumengarten anzulegen. Und was kostete ihn das schon, da er sprudelndes Wasser und springende Bäche hatte, die Sommer wie Winter plätscherten. Wenn Weizen und Gerste reif waren, dann glichen unsere Felder goldfarbenen Meeren. Aber etwas Prächtigeres als unsere Oliven fand man nirgendwo; sie trugen uppig, ihre Fruchte waren fest, glänzend, schwarz wie echte Araber! Eine gute Einnahmequelle fur unser Dorf war das Ol; aber der Dorfsäckel fullte sich mit Goldpfunden auch durch die Feigen, die nicht nur in dem Städtchen Aydin, sondern in ganz Anatolien, in Europa und Amerika beruhmt waren. Dunnhäutige, seidene Feigen, voll Zucker, mit goldenem Saft wie Honig, mit dem ganzen Feuer und der Suße Anatoliens.
