Here Claude Calame mounts a powerful critique of modern-day misconceptions on this front and the lax methodology that has allowed them to prevail. He argues that the Greeks viewed their abundance of narratives not as a single mythology but as an "archaeology." They speculated symbolically on key historical events so that a community of believing citizens could access them efficiently through ritual means. Central to the book is Calame's rigorous and fruitful analysis of various accounts of the foundation of that most "mythical" of the Greek colonies--Cyrene in eastern Libya. Calame opens with a magisterial historical survey demonstrating today's misapplication of the terms "myth" and "mythology." Next he examines the Greeks' symbolic discourse to show that these modern concepts arose much later than commonly believed. Having established this interpretive framework Calame undertakes a comparative analysis of six accounts of Cyrene's foundation: three by Pindar and one each by Herodotus in two different versions Callimachus and Apollonius of Rhodes. We see how the underlying narrative was shaped in each into a poetically sophisticated distinctive form by the respective medium a particular poetical genre and the specific socio-historical circumstances. E diventò cacciatore. Fu un processo lungo, sconvolgente e rapinoso, che lasciò tracce e cicatrici nei riti e nei miti, oltre che nei comportamenti, mescolandosi con qualcosa che nella Grecia antica fu chiamato "il divino", tò theîon, diverso ma presupposto dal sacro e dal santo e precedente perfino agli dèi. Numerose culture, distanti nello spazio e nel tempo, associarono alcune di queste vicende, drammatiche ed erotiche, a una certa zona del cielo, fra Sirio e Orione: il luogo del Cacciatore Celeste. Le sue storie sono intrecciate in questo libro e si diramano in molteplici direzioni, dal Paleolitico alla macchina di Turing, passando attraverso la Grecia antica e l'Egitto ed esplorando le connessioni latenti all'interno di uno stesso, non circoscrivibile territorio: la mente.

ill., br. Le nozze di Cadmo e Armonia furono l'ultima occasione in cui gli dèi dell'Olimpo si sedettero a tavola con gli uomini, per una festa. Ciò che accadde prima di allora, per anni immemorabili, e dopo di allora, per poche generazioni, forma l'albero immenso del mito greco. Nelle "Nozze di Cadmo e Armonia" un soffio di vento torna a muovere le fronde di quell'albero. Come scrisse un antico, «queste cose non avvennero mai, ma sono sempre». Raccontarle, intrecciandole fin nei minimi dettagli, impone alcune domande, che anch'esse «sono sempre»: perché gli dèi dell'Olimpo assunsero figura umana, e perché quella figura? Perché le loro storie sono così scandalose, e misteriose? Che cos'è un simulacro? Perché l'età degli eroi fu breve, convulsa e irripetibile? Da che cosa Zeus si sente minacciato? Forse il mito è una narrazione che può essere capita solo narrando. Forse il modo più immediato per pensare il mito è quello di raccontarne di nuovo le favole. Una luce radente, netta, qui le investe tutte e le mostra nelle loro molteplici connessioni, come una vasta e leggerissima rete che si posa sul mondo.

Calvino Italo 1923�85 Italian writer critic and editor. He was born in Cuba to Italian parents but grew up in San Remo on the Ligurian Riviera. Italian Folktales Fiabe Italiane is a collection of 200 Italian folktales published in 1956 by Italo Calvino. Calvino began to undertake the project that will lead to the Italian Folktales in 1954 influenced by Vladimir Propp's Morphology of the Folktale; his intention was to emulate the Brothers Grimm in producing a popular collection of Italian fairy tales for the general reader.1 He did not compile tales from listeners but made extensive use of the existing work of folklorists; he noted the source of each individual tale but warned that was merely the version he used.2 He included extensive notes on his alterations to make the tales more readable and the logic of his selections such as renaming the heroine of The Little Girl Sold with the Pears Perina rather than Margheritina to connect to the pears3 and selecting Bella Venezia as the Italian variant of Snow White because it featured robbers rather than the variants containing dwarfs which he suspected were imported from Germany.4 It was first translated into English in 1962; a further translation is by Sylvia Mulcahy Dent 1975 and constituted the first comprehensive collection of Italian folktales.5 WOW! br. Come le pagine di un diario. Continua la narrazione del mondo magico, luoghi e persone che hanno tutti nomi significativi. Ziu Monzu che fa le parti di una pecora rubata con il rosario in mano. Pede 'e Voe viene riportato ucciso in paese sopra un carro coperto di frasche. Missu 'e Deu è uno dei tanti poveri di spirito però intoccabile perché mandato da Dio. Uno spazio particolare se lo ritaglia tzia Grimenta, attittatòra ufficiale dei morti in guerra. In appendice una raccolta di muttos.
