This is an almost very good hardcover copy in blue boards elaborately decorated in gilt. Spine tips chipped. Possibly x-library or x-private collection as there is a 'Withdrawn' handstamp on the front floral endpaper, and just the faintest ghost of a label that may have been affixed to the base of the spine. The spine is uniformly darkened, though the gilt title still bright. The base of the spine is lighter than the rest of the spine. There are no other library type markings anywhere, no numbers. pockets, etc. Two previous owner names on the floral front endpaper. Also a few notes on the margins of the first section. Corners worn. 8" high X 6" wide, 308 pages.

Il libro analizza istituzioni culturali, personaggi e intellettuali italiani dell'epoca cercando di rispondere alla domanda un po' maliziosa del titolo. Interessanti i profili di Leopardi, Garibaldi e Mazzini, Gioberti, Guerrazzi, Giusti.

Critica di un'opera anonima sulle feste in Grecia reputate dall'A. non solamente priva di prove a sostegno delle teorie che esprime ma allo stesso tempo ricca 'di idee licenziose [...] si' laido fango stomachevole a guardarsi anche sol da lontano'. Cesare Lucchesini nacque a Lucca nel 1756, erudito, scrisse un vocabolario di lingua provenzale, un saggio sulla storia del teatro italiano medievale, e diverse opere di critica letteraria e teatrale con particolare interesse verso l'antica Grecia.
