Duveen, 466. Ferguson II, 182: no copy in the Young collection: In this work he tries to prove that the whole ancient mythology is merely a long sustained allegory of the preparation of the philosopher's stone.‎

‎Roman Mythology‎

‎Paul Hamlyn Publishing Group UK 1969. 1st edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. "A practical people the Romans evolved a practical religion which put heavy emphasis on citizen virtues. The object of their religious rites was not to give undemanding worship but to solicit divine aid in keeping the affairs of man and state running smoothly. Inevitably Rome opened up to a great influx of exotic religion and philosopy. Epicureanism Stoicism Mithraism the cult of Isis and other creeds all struggled for ascendancy until finally giving way to a new import from the East which eventually became the state religion: Christianity."
